Horses hunger for flesh almost constantly. Their lack of normal access to such things creates the illusion of herbivorey. Their teeth have evolutionary adaptations to crunch and grind bone, flesh, and cartilage down into a pasta before it efficiently digested.

This is why we must be so careful when hand feeding such beasts. One slip up and a finger, hand or worse could be lost in mere seconds.

Correct. It does happen, but it's an extreme rarity, mostly to animals in captivity. (a random wild horse is not regularly coming across baby chickens running around in flat open ground to be consumed for 'free calories". If it was in any way a normal part of their diet, they would have sharp teeth to consume flesh, as any animal who regularly consumes meat (omnivores, carnivores, humans, etc.) have.

Cows, deer and horses eat baby chickens like they lick rocks for sodium. The complex structure of ruminant's stomachs makes for a poor digestion of meat. It might be even be hurting them because it could rot and introduce unwelcome bacteria to their digestive track by sitting in their stomach for hours.

Vegans are objectively mentally ill because their diet lacks cholesterol and saturated animal fats, which are required for hormones, nervous system, and cell walls.

Vegetarians can be healthy if they eat lots of eggs and fish.

Both are a form of orthorexia if "animal welfare" is mentioned in relation to "nutritionally complete diet."

Also my cats have eaten grass for fun plenty of times, though they normally throw it up after.

In nature, humans die without animal derived food sources.
We are obligate omnivores.

Vegans deny this, therefore we may as well deny that cats are obligate carnivores because you can keep one alive (in poor shape) on a specially formulated vegan diet fortified with industrially produced synthetic nutrients.

And then the trucks dont show up one week and your cat gets sick from gut shock when going back to meat.

Welp it's bc the spectrum of Herbivores and Carnivores is less of a black n' white situation and more of a shade of grades thing. Both carnivores and herbivores have the obvious type that can only eat meat/plants that we all know and then there's the ones that can also eat from the other spectrum bc they need some nutrients and their stomachs have the capability to process that. For example, some cows in India have been seen eating some snakes and horses sometimes eat chickens for a similar reason, and on the side of carnivores some polar bears have been seen eating other things like algae and berries.
So yeah, the schools have all lied to you have carnivores and herbivores, and they eat li'l chicks bc they are full of nutrients that a horse might want.

Appear different when preparing... which is something very important that you're scoffing at for some reason
Historical precedent, both via religious institutions and cultural ones
Ethical factors; some people believe only warm-blooded animals, or only tetrapods, or etc can feel pain or think fully, so something like fish are fine. Similar exceptions are made for shellfish, or similar.
Definitionally; as some people have historically defined vegetarianism as including the ability to eat fish.
Not sure why this is hard for you to grasp. Vegetarianism itself is pretty retarded, so the people that decided that fish was fine were doing themselves a favor.

Obligate herbivory is basically a myth. Cows will eat snakes, manatees will eat dead fish, pandas round out their diet with a bit of meat and fish, damn near everything will eat eggs if they can find it, and deer make forensics a pain in the ass by eating human corpses and chewing on their bones. Being an herbivore is kind of a massive pain in the ass and meat is loaded with tons of nutrients that you just can't get from plants. Don't kid yourself Billy, if a cow had the chance he'd eat you and everyone you care about.

If its such "a pain in the ass" why did those animals develop dentition that are better for chewing plant matter and digestive systems optimized for getting nutrients out of plants because of how widespread they are? They are surrounded by small animals so why don't the try to hunt and eat them on a regular basis to get 'muh nutrients'?
>if a cow had the chance he'd eat you

Being an herbivore is a pain in the ass even when you're not a koala and choose to specialize in eating one plant so hard that it makes you retarded because plant material is way harder to digest than meat, it's why so many herbivores have massive guts that are solely dedicated to processing food that they've already chewed up and spit out 5 different times, and even then a lot of it doesn't get properly digested which is why so much herbivore poop is basically just giant chunks of undigested plant matter. It's like nature's corn. They can live off of plant matter just fine, but they need supplements every now and then, it's why you see deer and giraffes just chewing on bones for calcium. These animals wouldn't be engaging in this behavior without some kind of benefit, a cow eating a snake carries an inherit risk of the snake being venomous and seriously injuring or killing the cow, but the cow does it anyway because he's a culinary visionary who wants to cut out the middle man between spaghetti and meatballs.

If horses were carnivores they'd be near the most terrifying thing on the planet. Imagine a pack of 1000lb hunters that can chase you down for 100 miles, work as a team and sprint at 30mph.

Only thing more deadly would be one with a man sitting on his back

Very well put. Also herbivores have bacteria in their gut that transforms fiber into PUFAs (poly unsaturated fats.) That's how cows, gorillas, and horses get huge eating mostly plants.

You need to be "adapted" to actually get "full" nutrition from plants, but what about meat - I'd assume they're so well adapted to eating vegetative matter (grass specifically) that everything else takes a backseat.

You need to have special adaptations to digesting meat, killing as much of the stuff living in it as possible, and getting it out of your body before anything still living in it reproduces

Humans have these for example, our guts are shorter than any great ape, our molars are sharper, and we prolifically produce strong enzymes and ph 1 stomach acid.

Any gut fermentation makes eating meat your enemy. One bad bite and whatever lives in that meat has a few days to colonize your digestive tract.

Sharp teeth are only dietarily useful for animals that need to cut chunk of meat from a bigger body. For exemple, human canines are extremely dull and vestigial at this point because we used tools to cut our meat into bits for a long time in our evolution. If an animal as big as a horse regularly ate baby chicks (not saying that I agree with this statement), then it wouldn't need sharp teeth since it can already get them whole in its mouth

Yeah I knew about the stomach pH and intestinal length, I just wondered of there was any "biochemical" or digestive "block" on actually utilising animal matter if you're "obligate" herbivorous.

As in can they actually digest and use it properly (like we can digest and eat meat and are well adapted but is that because it's easier by default to utilise the nutrients, but on the other hand our gut is not quite so well adapted as to get away with eating raw meat or digesting bone)

We can eat raw fat and meat and dissolve bone

Hcl, bile salts, pepsin, and pancreatic enzymes dissolve that shit almost immediately. The appendix exists soley to harbor gut bacteria in case you get sick from it. In herbivores its a fermentation pouch so theyโ€™d get even sicker from it.

to be even more fair obligate herbivore doesn't even properly describe a Koala given they can't even eat any other plant or fruit matter except for eucalyptus leaves, Hell they can only eat eucalyptus leaves from around 40 of the 700 species of eucalyptus trees found in Australia, they are absurdly specialized

Humans dealt with wolves, tons of other crazy ass predators, and bears bigger than polar bears. I think a carnivorous horse would be much the same thing in the end. We'd either kill it or relegate it largely to areas where we don't live. Or domesticate them. Compared to some of the animals humans already had to compete with, a horse with sharper teeth probably wouldn't even be in the top 10 threats.

I'm not a biologist, but there's this classic saying that ''all animals are omnivores''. Deer also do this behaviour & rabbits have been known to chew on bones for nutrition. If it's easy to catch & edible there's nothing stopping it from eating it. Meat is more nutritious & has more calories than than more plant matter like grass. I'm only speculating, so please take it with a grain of salt.

That's why I'm not saying 'obligate carnivore', but 'exclusive'. Yes, cats are obligate carnivores, they cannot naturally survive and be healthy without eating meat, but they are not exclusive carnivores, meaning they would never ever eat anything but meat.
In this same way horses are obligate herbivores, they need nutrients from plants that they cannot get anywhere else (because they either aren't found anywhere but in plants, or because their digestive system cannot extract those nutrients from other types of food), but they aren't exclusive herbivores, as they will occasionally eat meat like small birds and rodents.
