Named mine after my favorite Sailor Scout. I just call her Mina for short. It's funny listening to my parents shout her full name.

Used to have a dog named Shmoo. He got the name because he looked like a Shmoo. Had a dog before him named Magic. He got the name because he looked like a Magic. Had a dog before him named Pepe. We got her secondhand from a Samoan lady. Apparently, Pepe means butterfly in Samoan, which is not an apt name for a Neapolitan Mastiff at all.

My family named my first dog for his breed, so fox terrier became Foxy.
Second dog was the runt of his litter, so he was Runt, but Midget was the runner up.
My cats have been named related to their defining colours.

I can't even think of a dog name that sounds good. They're all awful in their own way. The closest I can think of was my grandfather naming his black lab Nigger and it actually ended up hanging itself after it got its collar caught in a tree it climbed. Prophetic name.

About 5, a cockatiel. My old cockatiel who flew away in an accident was called Becky. I was really devastated and felt so much grief, so when I was ready to get another, I named him Nugget as a dark joke because if he got out and flew away the cats would eat him a snack or a chicken nugget.

My budgie, now about 4, gotten because he was all alone at Christmas (fuck Petbarn though, I didn't want to be enabling them but I also didn't want someone who didn't know how to care for them to have him and for him to die). My manager at work kept calling Nugget Peanut by accident so when I got a budgie to be Nugget's friend, I named him Peanut as a joke so she'd be right.

Adopted, 4 years old cockatiel. I have literally no idea why she's called that but she knows her name so I can't change it. The guy giving her up was ready to cry doing so. Peanut ended up liking Nugget but he likes to annoy him so I got Chimpy to be his friend because Peanut and Nugget have to be in separate cages and only socialise well in an open space.

Gotten from the same person who was rehoming both of them and didn't want to split them up; he was an Asian dude on Gumtree and his wife wanted to get a dog, I think. She has no talons, apparently from being poorly bred/having her parents peck at them according to the vet. Hence 'nubs'ie.

Sometimes my birds keep their names from the shelter, other times I change it and name them, especially if it sounds like a person's name.

He's named after the catgirl from Dungeon Meshi, because I was lied to by the heavily tattooed man with a strong scent of vape that gave him to me said he was "pretty sure" it was a girl.

Remilia. My mom had some say in how I named the dog since I live with her. After a week of back and forth we landed on Remi, which I took and ran with so I could call her Remilia. Pepe and duchess were the runner ups. Personally I think Flan would have been the more appropriate touhou project character to name her after.
