I've adopted cats that were rescued from a breeding mill situation. Sweet animals. The vets think they might be sisters or mother and daughter. I've only had them for three days.

One is a Siamese and one is a Ragdoll. Ragdoll is very social and affectionate. She wants to around people and close to Siamese. Siamese is more standoffish and a little skittish. She seems to be quite tolerant though.

When I feed them, the Ragdoll eats quickly and then moves on to the Siamese's plate. The Siamese eats slower, looks up a lot to check if the Ragdoll is coming, but she always seems hungry. If the Ragdoll comes over, she will surrender her food.

They both lay on my couch. The Siamese will lay away from the Ragdoll, but the Ragdoll will often move to join the Siamese. Sometimes, the Siamese will tolerate it or move if she gets annoyed but occasionally, it will lead to hissing. It doesn't seem to escalate past that though.

Should I do something? Are they still getting used to their new home or does the Ragdoll's behavior need to be corrected so she's not bullying the smaller Siamese?

My cat's had scratching fits for a while where he'll fuck up his cheeks, vet's always said he couldn't pinpoint anything but recently it's gotten pretty bad, socks are pretty useless too so please help me solve it.
Can this be allergies? He's had a polyester smol cat house thingy for a while too, but probably longer tbf, and in general it seems like his health and disposition noticeably declined after our other cat passed away (about 3 and a half years ago), though this one isn't young anymore either, going on 14. I also sorta remember having gone to the vet with him for some reason long, long ago and there was something to do with mites which helped whatever it was at the time, but for some reason that wasn't something the vet's thought of so far.

What could be going on? Please excuse my shit memory.

You only have these three options
1: You engineer a species specific toilet for your pet
2: Your pet shits in a designated, frequently cleaned spot on your property
3: You take your animal for a shitting walk, they take a crap on some of that useless, never-traversed front grass, and you bag it up. Feed them metamucil so their shits dont leave smears.

My cat started to notice a pattern: I would leave him alone if he started making angry noises at me. So, he now preempts these noises when his intuition (often right) tells him that I'm about to grab him, just to force him onto my chest in bed.

It's annoying, but I'm also proud of him. The part that sucks is that this intensifies.

Yeah, I have a cat that never sleeps with me, doesn't tolerate sitting on me, and runs away after I pet him. But at the same time, he cries after me, asks only me for food, never disturbs my sleep, and is very respectful otherwise.

Do you mean the $250 includes testing for ringworm via a culture and the shampoo to treat it? Or the vet is just going to charge that for a shampoo alone, and if it clears up, declare ringworm that way?

I know I'm overreacting but I want to vent.
A while back I found a 4/5 week old kitten, Bean, after a big storm. He's now 11/12 weeks old but he has been a menace from the moment I brought him in.
Ever since the beginning Bean ignores any toy that's not a Go Cat Mouse or Bee (and even then he refuses to play with them half the time), constantly attacks any exposed part of my skin, I give, gets destructive with furniture, the whole nine yards. When he does decide to play he can easily go for over an hour, and will bite and scratch when I have to stop. Even if I pet him in his sleep he'll wake up and immediately start biting. I'm covered head to toe in scratches. I redirect and he kicks the toy away to bite me more, I try to ignore him and he bites harder, I yelp and walk away and he waits until I come back to bite even more. I know a big part of this is that he didn't have a chance to socialize with his liter.
I did some research and spoke with multiple fosters for a local rescue and ended up adopting a 3.5 month kitten, Shadow. My hope was that they could play and socialize with each other.
Shadow is an angel. He's never once bitten or scratched at me, he plays with any toy I give him, he always wants love and pets, etc.
The problem is that they don't get along. They'll hiss and run away from each other. I know they probably need more time, but now it's even worse because I have to divide my already limited time between 2 cats, trying to keep them separated, and it feels like no one is happy here. I feel so sad that I can't fully give either cat what they want and don't know what to do. I have a vet appointment on Tuesday and will ask for their advice...
Anonymous No.5012385 >>5012899
>>5012384
Domesticated animals are not programmed to like humans. They have an extended socialization window so they can adapt to humans.

Cats suck at this because they're kind of dumb and therefore more under control of their instincts, dogs are great at this because they're very smart. If you want cats with good temperaments you need to adopt kittens from a reputable breeder, not Nth generation feral mutts that are essentially the cat version of a shitty pajeet street dog - not the original wild animal, and worse than the modern domesticated one, a purely degenerated and inferior animal adapted to an inferior environment that breeds inferiority.

I was doing some cleaning and I found an old toy - one of those fishing rod looking wands that you can attach a mouse or whatever too. Haven't used it in months with them because it's in a room in the house I don't use often. It looks like one of them bit through the plastic wire and a good chunk of it is missing - only issue is I have no idea which of them could have done it and if they ate it or not. One of them had been puking a few weeks ago but that's stopped. Tore up the room looking for the spare piece but couldn't find anything. Any advice? Stupid fucking glitched out Cuckchan won't let me make a thread, and there's not currently a bunny thread, so I'mma ask my question here since rabbits are essentially vegetarian cats.

I lost my pet recently, and I am really struggling because of it. He was a dwarf European rabbit, very fluffy, kind of a lovable troll, would almost never let me pet him, but he was starting to warm up to me.

It's particularly hard because I feel like I might have accidentally let him eat something poisonous to him. If anyone knows about this, please tell me, but I left out some corn chips, which are usually fine if he eats them as an occasional snack, but I failed to realise they might be dangerous because I prepared a dish that had onion powder on it and the chips were eaten on the same plate. Small chance they might have gotten some of the powder on them. Would that really have done him in if it was such a small bit, though? Not sure.

Anyway, my state is horrible on pet owners' rights and taxidermists aren't allowed here to preserve him. There's a place in Ohio that could do it, but it's so expensive that I feel like I shouldn't. He looks dignified, like he's just chilling out as usual. But I'm not sure what to do with his body now. Currently he's in a cardboard box in the bottom of my freezer so he doesn't decay or anything.

So if I were to leave him in the freezer long enough, would it eventually eliminate all the bacteria that would break him down and cause him to decay, thus preserving him on my own? Or will I need to eventually just dig a nice grave site for him and just put him in the ground and let nature take its course?

If there was several bouts of puking and then nothing, and now that's stopped and they're eating and using the litter fine, no lethargy or abnormal behaviour, it sounds like they successfully passed the ingested plastic bit. If you want to be absolutely certain and want to shell put the money, could get ultrasounds to be sure.
Should probably start keeping anything potentially dangerous to ingest away from them.

Definitely keep things clean, launder fabrics on high temps, but beyond regular hygiene upkeep I personally found ringworm didn't need as thorough sterilizing as, say, coccidia. If you can keep kitten in one room with minimal stuff in it it's easier.

Yes, do the shampoo and the dip twice a week each.
Hill's isn't that great quality and you could probably find something better (free of grain, rice, peas, for example) at the same price point. Whatever you do feed, wet is best.
Hope kitty clears up quickly!
>>5012600
Cat-dependant. Helps a lot of cats drink more, some don't care. Stainless steel is the way to go for less scum/bacteria buildup. Doesn't hurt to have one though. Bonus: ambient water feature noise.

My cat is acting strange this morning. He's just laying down. Usually he's pretty jumpy and active. I tried petting him, and when I got to his belly he started pushing my hand away. I threw up some yellowish liquid, not foamy, with a bit of hair in it. He does get hairballs because he does most of the grooming for him and his brother, his brother is long-haired. He's just laying in the corner now. He's usually a heavy purrer, but when I pet him he's just making a whistling sound. He's making biscuits and doing cute hand stretches at me, so I don't think he's super in distress. I assume it's some sort of stomach discomfort, but I'm concerned whether I should take him to the vet or not.

I have a indoor plant that has little rocks all around it and one of my kittens keeps stealing the rocks and batting them all over the house. It is very cute, but I'm concerned it may scratch my hardwood floors. How do I deter him from this behaviour? I have tried putting toys he likes close to the plant, but he just ignores them and goes obsessively after the rocks.

I called. They didn't seem too worried. They said they do walk-ins 9-11am, not appointments until next week. They said if he's still acting funny to bring him in tomorrow morning, that it's most likely general stomach discomfort. Gave me an emergency number just in case.

He started moving around a bit more earlier. Looked like he was looking for food. He wouldn't eat wet food. He did eat a churru about an hour ago and kept it down. He goes back and forth between letting me touch his belly and not. He hasn't jumped at all today. He peed. Still purring. Just acting super lethargic, sitting in the corner of my room.

Sorry I really love this cat and just trying to get as much advice, providing as much info as I can.

I don't have any good pics but my in law built a large one with some wooden pillars and chicken wire. She then made a little bridge from the back patio to the run.

It looks bad imo but she built the whole thing by herself in maybe a weeks time with scrap material. If you invest more time and money to properly measure and cut things you can probably get something better.

The bridge is definitely a highlight. Relatively easy to build and it allows you to place the catio wherever you want + the cats love it. And it allows for a walking path underneath.

Basically, had cat essentially demand to live in my house despite me already having three big dogs about 2 months ago. In typical cat fashion, she was pregnant. She didnt look it, but apparently was. I fed her pic rel for the entire time shes been here and still do. I get the different flavors and stuff but theyre all nutritionally similar from this line.

Now she spends all day lying around, she seems so sad and she can't even purr without coughing. I know it's her time, but that doesn't make it any easier. Cats have a blind spot in front of their snout and below it.
If the water is still, and its a bowl that is just kind of plain inside the cat has a hard time judging where the water level is. A cat fountain makes a little bit of noise, and the rippling on the surface is something they can eyeball it.
Or if its like my cat he drinks from the little ledge the water dribbles down, like he's drinking from a faucet.
It encourages your cat to drink more water which is always a good thing since the most common problem with cats are kidney problems and blocked bladders, usually because they're not getting enough water.

I'm about to lose my 5th cat in just over a year. All of them were old, the last one is 18 years old, just lost my 20 year old 2 months ago but with him I knew it was his time for weeks if not months before he finally stopped eating and decided to not let him degrade and suffer.

I noticed my last cat stopped eating most of her food a few days ago and immediately realized it was happening again because I had seen it happen with all my other cats. Now her breathing is labored, took her to the vet and she's anemic but no fluid in the lungs, even the vet is unsure what's happening she got antibiotics but I know it's not an infection. She barely moves now, lays on the floor after using the litter box and I haven't seen her drink water in days so I'm giving her subcutaneous fluids.

The worst part is I noticed her not eating her food on Friday, took her to the vet on that day but now I have to wait for the weekend to be over to take her back to the vet to figure out what else I can do but I know there's nothing else but I still have to, it's just delaying the inevitable that I will have to put by last baby to sleep again and I just can't do it anymore... losing so many animals in a short span of time, and now my dog is also 15 years old and survived cancer 2 years ago which thankfully hasn't returned but he doesn't have much longer to live either and then I'll have no animals left.

I guess I'm posting this because... I just don't know how I can get more animals again. I've had so many in my life not just the 5 I've lost lately, like dozens of cats from my childhood to adulthood all of which are gone now, but I haven't got a new animal in well over a decade and I just don't know if I can despite how much I love having them and know there's so many that need a home... it's just hard and maybe I just need time to move on and take in another one.

Anyways thanks for reading my TED talk I just don't have anyone to talk to about this and I'm bummed as hell right now.

Water can be filtered by stacking rocks. Literally, stacking rocks. Big rocks on top to sand at the bottom. A cheap iodine tab finishes the job. Anyone who has no clean water source at all deserves it.

My cat shoes just died in my arms.

I'm still in shock and unable to process this. Like I said earlier, she stopped eating Thursday, took her to the vet Saturday, they told me to bring her back monday if she didn't improve which I was going to do in the morning. But Sunday she declined RAPIDLY. I was considering taking her to an emergency vet but they wanted over $250 just to bring her in and euthanize her so I thought she would make it through the night and I would take her to my normal vet early in the morning.

But about 3 hours ago she abruptly jumped off my lap where she had been laying almost all day and ran to the corner of my room, I checked on her and she was breathing with her mouth open, struggling to breathe. I didn't know what to do and there was no way she would make it to the emergency vet so I just held her in my arms sobbing as she stopped breathing after a few minutes, that's all I could do. I've never had to see one of my animals die like this, the dozens of cats I have owned over the years, all of them passed at the vet with euthanasia.

I feel broken right now, I've always struggled with losing my animals but this is the worst it's ever been, seeing her struggle to breathe like that, watching the life fade from her eyes with no comfort was the worst experience of my life...

To make matters worse, her sister, socks, just passed away last September. She died under similar circumstances, but I was able to bring her to the vet for euthanasia and had time to process what happened to her and her sister to comfort me after she passed. Now I have no cats left, the others I had died in recent years too from old age and cancer.

anyways thanks for reading my TED talk again sorry it's an essay I'm just broken right now and need to cope somehow... pic related is Shoes just a few months ago, she seemed like she would go on forever at some times... I've had many cats live into their 20s. She was 18 years old, born around late 2006.

How bad is the matting? If it can't be brushed out with a detangling comb (starting slowly from the fur ends and working towards the skin - pinch the fur close to the skin for you're not pulling as you brush) then you'll have to shave it off, or cut it if you can safely do so without risking cutting skin. After that, prevention is just regular brushing and catching matts before they get too big to brush out with the matting comb.

Had something similar on my kitten, a baby lump with scab over it. I'd scratch the scab off and itd still be there days later. What fixed it is when my kitten got ringworm vet prescribed an antifungal shampoo. I scraped the scab off one more time and thoroughly gathered him up and the next day the lump was gone. Maybe one of the non prescription antifungal shampoos on amazon will work

If it's lasting and occasionally has pus, you should take her to the vet and get a culture done. Many things it could be, especially if it doesn't heal. Stop her from scratching it, with a cone or sweater or something.
>>5016288
That's pretty bad looking. It definitely could be allergies, but it's more likely dietary than environmental, you could do an elimination diet - foods with a single protein source and free of grains and legumes.
It could also be an overgrowth of bacteria or yeast. Are food and water dishes cleaned daily? Use stainless or ceramic instead of plastic. Check around his claw beds, is there similar gunk?
Could also be his teeth - check them for tartar buildup, redness around the gums, abscesses. A dental may help.
Did you bring up that a mite treatment seemed to help last time? Is it only around his mouth? Could have the vet do a culture.
In the meantime, get chlorhexidine wipes and regularly, gently wipe around his chin and mouth; keep his bed, food, and water dishes clean; keep him from scratching with a cone. The soft ones are more comfortable and are still effective.

>diet
Most of his teeth had to be removed years ago. Somehow always had bad breath compared to our other cat, eventually we noticed issues in some way coming up and it had to be done. Even if I was young and more inexperienced, I concede my failure and guilt in not dealing with it in time.
But yeah has to be soft food these days. Also not the best digestive system and not the strongest lower body anymore so he had the shits pretty badly for a good while too, eventually we tried just sticking to one brand and luckily at least that's been fine since.

tl;dr 1
We don't have much wiggle room with regards to diet, but I'll see if there is something better we can find and that works.

Dishes are cleaned with every portion. Hasn't consciously gone for water in a long time, but we try to put just a bit of water in the dish along with the food. We used to use plastic but have switched to stainless a while ago, hasn't really fixed it. As I mentioned he has this mini cat house thing (dunno what to call it) which we could try doing away with for a while, timeframe might line up with when the behaviour started but I'm not too sure.
Sleeping so can't check his claws right now but they might have some gunk. What then?
The mite treatment was targeting I think a flare-up around his ears and/or neck. It was very long ago, sorry.
I'll look into the wipes and the cone. Even if the cone might not make the pain or whatever go away, at least it will protect him where the socks were ineffective. Any recommendations on material etc.?
My deepest thanks for your help.
Anonymous No.5016330
Ok there is some gunk to the claws, but it's pretty close to the root. But also overall he's more disorientated these days and ends up (stuck) in places where he shouldn't and also can't into grooming anymore.

Depends on your budget and what's available in your area. A lot of people will sing Tiki Cat's praises as the best brand, but it's fairly expensive. Personally I've found Weruva's various labels to have a good cost/quality balance for my cat.

Fancy Feast is probably the "least worst" cat food you can find in a grocery store. I heard Hills isn't great.

Dry food is basically unhealthy as a rule so it barely matter what brand you get as long as the cat enjoys it.

Given his age, disorientation, poor digestion, and weak lower body, I'd say get a thorough check up - geriatric blood panel & check kidney and liver function, and that he really needs a clean, high protein diet change, though I know you say you don't have much wiggle room there. Not sure what you're feeding now.
No recommendations for the soft cone's material, any that fit and keep him from scratching so much until it hopefully clears up with the chlorhexidine.

There is no definitive ranking of the smartest cat breeds. Still, there are about 20 breeds that are widely regarded as the most intelligent because they meet the previously mentioned criteria/benchmarks. If your cat isn’t on that list, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are not smart, it simply means that they are not among the top 20. Among the top 20, certain breeds stand out, such as Abyssinians and Siamese.

Below them are Oriental Shorthairs, Balinese, Cornish Rex, Tonkinese, Turkish Vans, Burmese, Savannahs, and Bengals. Highly energetic, driven cats with a clear sense of purpose and alertness.

For the following category, we can put cats like the Maine Coon, Sphynx, Ocicat, Russian Blue, and Devon Rex. Smart, trainable cats that are affectionate and responsive but with a more relaxed energy compared to the upper tier.

Below the upper echelon (left vague since the topic is focused on the top breeds), we could place cats like the Chartreux, Korat, Egyptian Mau, Japanese Bobtail, and Turkish Angora.

Next: American Wirehair, LaPerm, and Pixiebob. Somewhat rare, intelligent in bursts, but often more independent or subtle in how they engage.

Then, Cymric, Kurilian Bobtail, Nebelung, Singapura, and Manx. Cats that may not stand out as cognitively exceptional but are clever and adaptive in quiet, understated ways.

Here are several breeds that are left over. They’re not dumb; they just aren’t at the top of feline intelligence: Exotic Shorthair, Himalayan, Selkirk Rex, and the Munchkin.

3 days isn't really long enough to tell if it's anythign other than just being on edge due to new environment. with that said, one car will always be more dominant than another in a shared living environment, and it's not always the bigger/older one. some cats just don't want confrontation so they cuck to the little one. mine are like that. they get along for the most part, but the little one does annoy the older one about once or twice a day. bullying is only when one is doing something problematic like rough play when the other one doesn't like it. hissing here and there is just a cat telling the other one to fuck off, usually before it gets to that point, some cats listen and fuck off, some are hardheaded like mine. try feeding them separately though, or at least reinforce constantly to the stealing one that it can't do that. it's pretty common for cats to do that if you don't intervene.

vg, v, pol, gif, to a lesser degree ck and g - all these boards have dedicated schizos hellbent on farming (You)s and turning threads to shit.
and so long as the jannies are literal fucking discord trannies this is not going to ever change, especially when the shitmaggots collaborate with each other as is self-evident in most vg threads.
this is inevitable when the jannies are doing the needful behind closed doors unsupervised and are completely foreign to the board populace and culture.

I put the litter box inside of a wide cardboard lid, and that is on one of those big rubber mats with all the little rubber finger-things.
But yeah, you're going to get litter tracking.
Try using less litter in the tray as well. As long as you're cleaning it daily you don't need much more than an inch or so of clean litter. Less litter in the box, less to get kicked out.
I know with my cat, he likes to bury his turds 6 ft under, if there's too much litter in his box he'll just shovel it out to make his field latrine.

I forget the brand or "flavor" but I remember splurging for the fancy-shit wet food for him as a treat, and when I opened up the can I was a little pissed off because it looked and smelled better than the can of dinty moore I was going to have for dinner.
Another just had big chunks of mackerel in it.
Kind of resent whenever my cat ends up eating better than I do.

How long can I leave wet food on a dish before it'll get my cat sick? How long after putting it out should I toss it?
