we've always known that birds evolved from dinosaurs. Just like we've always known humans descended from apes.

It was only 50 years ago that we adopted cladistics meaning birds ARE dinosaurs just like humans ARE apes.

That's not even correct. Humans have been known to be apes for centuries. Birds AREN'T dinosaurs. They may not even actually be descended from them.
