Found a squirrel with a broken leg, took it to the emergency vet after the animal humane society in my county told me it'll pick it up there. Vet told me they will most likely just euthanize it.
Amazing society we have here.

Squirrels serve no function in society, it doesnโ€™t matter if itโ€™s alive or dead.

yeah, society is fucked. once euthanized "humanely" that squirrel isn't even usable for food due to the fatal dose of barbituates that went into it.

i shoot squirrels injured or not with a pellet rifle and feed them to my cat. circle of life.

That's why you NEVER bring an injured wild animal to a vet or any other animal center.
They have limited funds and don't have time to rehabilitate any animal that comes to them, so they just kill it.
Either nurse the animal back to health yourself, or just move it out of any immediate danger and then leave it be. Nature itself will do the rest and determine whether it lives or dies.

It's probable it would have died anyway. At least you didn't have to do it yourself.

Next time just eat it. Use the pelt to shield yourself from the coming winter.

Where are they going to keep a neurotic terrified rabies vector for a week in a probably small facility full of raccoons that doesn't have 24/7 staffing

unfortunately those facilities often are working with limited funds, so cases it with the best long term prognosis get priority. It's only going to get worse with the recent cuts.

Why do you barbarians refuse the blade? The Japanese perfected it, the French automated it. I'm talking about beheadings. It's quick, merciful and whitewash the act of taking a life.
