Pigeon chicks already look like dodos, just preserve enough neoteny traits and make it bigger/flightless to pass it off as one. It'd be more convincing than the "dire wolves."

Not true, takahe also have sharp spurs concealed in their wings which they use to fight and climb, so they're cooler than dodos.

Probably not.

Unlike modern pigeons, which are monogamous, dodos were polygamous and used their giant beaks of them to fight one another

Thylacines are still sighted somewhat regularly (as in once every few years), it's just the Australian government wants them extinct so they can strip mine Tasmania.

they were supposed to have been herbivores, so they wouldn't have need particularly strong arms. I don't know why they would've evolved to have those types of claws, though.

The Dutch sailors who discovered them called them "walgvogel" which literally translates to "wallow fowl" or "disgusting bird".

But eat them to death they did. Imagine getting snacked into extinction and the cunts didn't even enjoy eating you.

Hunting had its impact, but that paled against the predation and nest destruction by introduced pigs & rats, and the cutting down & destruction of their forest habitat.

It was those last two factors that really sounded the death-knell for the Dodo.
