It's good lions sleep a lot. Imagine if they were awake constantly. Sleeping a lot means their metabolism slows down a lot. If they only slept a couple hours they'd need to be hunting far more to sustain their bodies and you wouldn't have a whole lot of prey animals left with a huge population of active hunters.
