I like viewing nature but I have zero desire to take photos or videos.

The best cameras are Sony alpha mirrorless bodies with 35mm full frame sensors. Try checking out the a7iii and a7c for starters!

Tbh yeah Sony was extremely early to the modern camera game, their entire lineup since the dark ages all have USB charging, WiFi share to your phone, and a up to date app for that which still supports the old models.
Shit most of them even have a homebrew community.
The only downside is that lenses are a fuckin ghost town.

If you want to save a lot of money and are expecting used market, go canon. Their modern bodies support every fucking lens they and anyone else has ever made and last time I cared to check the market was 4x even nikon lenses. It's a clear budget winner if you see fine with vintage glass.

Sometimes I daydream about working on a ship. My true salary would be seeing the bioluminescence on the surface, the stars in the sky, and the myriad creatures that occasionally swim near the hull.

All the time. And I see the craziest animals I've ever seen and my heart starts pounding as I take the pictures and I wake up. One of the animals I remember was a giant heron hanging upside from the ceiling in an old barn. It had a huge dead horse suspended from the ceiling in some sort of spider web and was wrapping the horse up. Very sinister feeling. I also see lots of gigantic bird/dragon things that you catch glimpses of through the clouds and they are the size of planets.
