I bet either one of these is going to eventually get so good at gliding that they evolve to actually fly. I'm sad I'll never get to see that world.

Both of these things are gonna go extinct before they could actually get that far if we're still around doing dumb shit.

The fish probably won't just cuz there's not enough incentive, they can't breathe air and sure they could hold their breath like a reverse dolphin but unless they started hunting sea birds as prey while they flew there would be literally no incentive to fly

Tree snakes honestly I feel are really very close to flight already. They already flatten their body like a pancake as beat they can while gliding. That just needs to develop a little bit further. All the snakes need to do is start developing flaps of loose skin on each side of the body to help catch the wind better. Those would quickly develop into a membrane running down both sides like a flying squirrel. Unlike a flying squirrel I'm 100% positive a snake would be able to propel itself enough to legitimately fly, it wouldn't even be hard, the side membranes just need to develop into a shape that produces lift. They could easily do that.

Dunno, often animals get stuck evolutionarily.

Lol that fish is screwed if birds decide it's easy prey or if it crashing into dry land.

Indeed. Fish suck at evolving anyway. There were flying fish over 200 years ago and they went extinct. Fish get size mogged by sharks, mammals and prehistoric reptiles. Fish are only good at being fish.

He says about literally one of the oldest creatures with a legacy spanning damn near from the earliest life and sarcoptyergians being what ultimately led to humans and other tetrapods. But fish suck and can't do shit. Unreal how fucking low IQ some people can get.

I said nothing about how successful or old they are, I'm just saying they're stuck evolutionarily. They evolved onto land once (and couldn't do it again) and then the most interesting evolutionary paths happened after they stopped being fish. Though to be fair, I was overlooking some weirdly shaped ones like pic related.

I've had a ">when you see it " moment when i realized most terrestrial large animals have evolved from fish, and that we all still have that same "fish head" when you look at our faces.
Imagine what large animals would look like if octopi or some large insect would have conquered land first.

Molluscs and arthropods did conquer land first.

It's probably a more earthy and gamey crab like taste.

Define "stuck evolutionarily"?
Fish are plenty capable of evolving in very strange, unique, and successful ways. The way you're talking about fish is like if all extant fish were around by the time of the Devonian.

Pufferfish evolved after the KPG mass extinction for example.

>They evolved onto land once (and couldn't do it again)
It’s not that they couldn’t do it again, it’s that those niches were already held and dominated by more derived land-fish
>then the most interesting evolutionary paths happened after they stopped being fish
They never stopped being fish

Whatever my gut says. I'm not being hyper scientific. I just think mammalian evolution is more impressive. Competition didn't stop them from becoming apex predators in the sea. If you think mammals are land fish, fair enough.

>Competition didn't stop them
because there was no competition, after the dinosaurs, all that was left was megalodon

I don’t think this, I know this
