why were barnacles invented? wouldn't the sea be better without them? though i have to admit they are satisfying to scrap and decent to eat

It's a food source for a handful of sea creatures but yeah, they're gross looking parasites that fuck over a couple of whales, turtles, mollusks and crustaceans. All of them would benefit without these things.
