>And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.
>But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.
>Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel.

Animals generally don't have the capacity to be malicious, and you don't have any predisposed feelings about the animals you are looking at. They're basically a cute blank slate you can project your feelings onto. For some people they had a bad experience with a kot and so they'd start seething when they look at your picture.

Because they're cute. And we all like cute things. And as animals we know they aren't scheming, traitorous, etc. At least not towards us or on the same scale. We reached the apex. And the only real enemy left is ourselves barring us meeting some aliens.
