Lanternfly
Is there anything that can realistically be done to stop these things at this point?

I have 2 trees on my property that are absolutely covered with these things and probably a third of the trees in the woods behind my property are like this as well.

I feel like the problem has grown too big for anything to be done, like it's over and they've won.

We need to increase the population of gray catbirds

What do they do? I am completely in the dark here. Do they consume the trees and local plantlife? If it really is a problem, simply look up what cool animals prey on them. Maybe a sweet gigachad toad can swoop some up.
Or get some chickens and set em loose.

they basically shitposters, they stab nonwoody plants and suck the sap out of them and shit out the excess sugar all over it causing it to mold over. theyre like aphids except gigantic and you cant buy a bag of ladybugs to handle it

Dude, bugs have done this for millions of years. Just look up S and J curve species. You're literally making a problem out of nothing. They literally sperg out and have sex like this and then -ACK themselves annually. Just chill. Be one with nature. They're not hurting you.

one treatment lasts all year, they died on the tree within hours, make sure it is not too dry when you do it, the juice needs to make it to the tree roots not get stuck in the soil, picrel

Spray with insecticidal soap. Vacuum them up. Dump them on your exes lawn.
