Man, being a catalogfag finally caught up to me as I was trying to bump an old general, so I'll copy my post from there

I'm getting a 6.5 months old rough collie. And this is my first dog if we're not counting numerous interactions with friends' and family dogs. And while collies are said to be chill and intelligent, and he behaves well at breeder home, I'm preparing for the hardships of having to adapt an adolescent dog to the completely different life.
So far I'm expecting problems with potty training since he was living with free access to the backyard, and leash and crate training for the same reason. He's also the biggest pup in the litter and seemingly has a tendency to do things the way he wants to even if others are not ok with it (chasing house cats, nibbling at his brother's legs, expressing his will to be hugged by putting his paws on the person's shoulders). Do you guys have any tips? I can't decide whether to approach him gently or strictly right away.

Trying to leash train my dog. I’ve been struggling with trying to train her to walk properly for over 3 years and nothing I do works.

I think it’s because she tends to get anxious a lot when we’re anywhere away from home. She tries to pull to either go home, or pulls to go on someone’s lawn when she gets a whiff of something. When I tried to get her to not pull by tightening the leash, instead of walking to my side, she goes behind me.

I’ve tried treats, I’ve tried loose-leash walking, I’ve tried walking in different directions, I’ve tried walking backwards. Nothing fucking works.

She is also the type to bark and growl and every sights and sound outside and at every animal on tv. She growls even if it’s just a long shot of a farm scene and there’s no animals

I think she’s just a very hyper aware, reactive dog

my 13 year old shiba seems to have gotten pretty sick recently. the vet says it's a liver problem + some unspecified infection. So we bought him some special "liver-friendly" food and he got an infusion and some antibiotics for the infection. I wanted to ask if any of you know what more could be done or if he was potentially misdiagnosed and there's perhaps a more common shiba-specific issue going on.
Some info about my doge:

>he has these small spasms that don't let him walk (not seizures but muscle spasms) in the morning and he seems tired. it seems blood-sugar related since feeding him every 5.5h has improved these slightly

This big ball is pretty fun. I left it deflated enough so he can still grab it. I heard that dogs can get frustrated if they can't grab/retrieve a ball like this.
It's nice because I can play soccer with him unlike a small ball that he just instantly grabs the second I walk towards him. Still tough to get a good kick off, but definitely easier than small ball.

I am dog sitting for a family friend and one of their little dogs is driving me crazy. She climbs on my lap, then tries to climb up to my face to lick it. If I stop her, I put her down and she starts barking. Then they have a Furbo that starts playing music and shoots out treats. It rewards her for harassing me.

Solution for now is I'm taking the dogs on a really long walk each night so they're both exhausted when we get home. I want to talk to them about the damn Furbo, and I will when they get back but I don't think they will care. They are an old couple and one of their nieces gave it to them to spoil the dogs, she will randomly check on them and shoot out treats.

I'm never getting another terrier after the one I have passes. This dog will eat a live lizard whole, telling him to 'leave it' or 'drop it' doesn't go through his thick skull. But he'll do it when we're training I can drop steak, bacon, etc. and he'll leave it or if he does grab it if I tell him drop it he listens. But real world application fails. There was even one time he was drooling excessively after eating a lizard, I gave him a day to see how he felt before taking him to the vet, and he recovered. I have a feeling he's going to eat something one day he's not suppose to and go belly up which worries me.
