Dogs have evolved into brood parasites, it's not symbiotic
Notice how often dog nutters talk about dogs as if they were their own children. This is very similar to how brood parasitism works with birds.
Brood parasites (not all of them) often try to kill the real children in an attempt to get all nurturing to themselves and this is something we see with dogs as well despite the fact that doing doing that will risk getting killed themselves later (should be some evolutionary pressure against that but they do it anyway).
What dogs do is to mimic human children in various ways to trigger the nurturing instincts and this does explain a lot of behavior we see with dog nutters. Their instincts have been hijacked to care for worthless parasites to the point where they neglect their own children if they have any (and may opt out of having any due to them being obsessed with dogs instead).
