Shiba Inus - Arthritis and Allergies.
Most of the world's Shiba Inus are in Japan. There are 80,000 registered Shiba Inus in Japan.
It is one of the most inbred breeds. "Despite efforts to preserve the breed, the Shiba nearly became extinct during World War II due to wartime food shortage, as well as outbreaks of distemper in the 1950s and 60s and the Great Tottori Fire, which discouraged preservation efforts. All subsequent dogs were bred from the only three surviving bloodlines."

Basenjis - Progressive retinal atrophy and hyperthyroidism. Most live in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. There is approximately one dog in the DRC for ever 100 people. And if every dog in the DRC was a Basenji that would give approx. 1 million Basenjis
There are 700 million dogs in the world
There are at least 10 million German Shepherds in the world.
>What makes Shibas and Basenjis fascinating and valuable is that they gives us insight into the earliest dog populations with behaviour and genetics.
The Shiba isn't an ancient breed...

The oldest recognizably Shiba type skeleton is approximately 2000 years old.
And there doesn't seem to be any old skeletal remains of the Basenji breed with is suspicious.
If you want old dog genetics there are plenty of ancient dog skeletons around the world that date back 17,000+ years ago.
>There is nothing useful out of creating a mutant wolf hybrid
They are definitely less combative and dangerous than Basenjis and maybe even the Shiba Inu.
So...
