New to terrarium stuff. Are there any wikis for that? I am not planning on doing a isolated system for now but I am still kind of confused on how to balance everything

I heard jarrariums are great for beginners but I already have a unused aquarium I can convert. What do?

Then use the aquarium. What's the problem?

What do you want to keep in the Terrarium? Local shit you find outside? Exotic jungle plants?

Anyway just put a drainage layer, then something to seperate the drainage layer from the dirt layer and then put the dirt in.

Isopods and springtails in to keep the mould in check, plants in and LED light ontop.

If you want to keep exotic plants then you'll most likely need a heatmat also.

Arthropods, Reptiles, and Amphibians.
>Can I put frogs?
Yes. If you like frogs then you can build a planted tank with dart frogs. Tropical plants and mosses are usually pretty cheap but the dartfrogs themselves will cost around 100$ most times.

I have no idea how temperate terrariums work and if they need a winter cycle. I think lichens also need to grow on live trees outside.

Sorry I was talking about self sustaining aquariums. Not terrariums. Got confused for a sec.

My friend who is the current decision maker in our project wants to have Neon Tetra there. Think of basic and common stuff. This is our first go at this.

I mostly want to keep nitrogenous fish waste in control. I found some testing kits on AliExpress for that. I know from high school biology I need nitrifying bacteria in there but I am not sure about which species would work best for my purposes.

Also, plants. Preferably stuff which will help consume nitrates produced by the bacteria and produce oxygen for the fish

We got some random playground sand from outside and washed it real good. I am very skeptical that it will work. We couldn't find anything in local pet shops when we asked about "aquarium sand". Will cat litter work or should we look for aquarium sand on the net?
