How crazy is it I can tell commands to my dog and it understands what I'm asking it to do. Like I'm literally talking with an animal bro what the fuck???

dogs have a humanlike language processing pathway in their brain. they can even interpret basic grammar. we domesticated them because their vocal communication and body language convergently evolved with ours. they are most likely self aware but don’t weight visual input the same way we do so they pass the sniff test more easily than the mirror test (ive caught huskies and herding dogs admiring themselves in the mirror regardless)

also if you think about it humans and dogs are the same in many other ways

we follow rules for the same reasons whether we want to or not. they are learned via cost/benefit and become an unthinking loyalty.
we live in restricted spaces and leave for pre-planned, regimented activities
we idly attempt to communicate with distant others that may or may not be there (barking/social media/religion)
despite being below greater men we take our sovereignty seriously

I taught my dog what "show me" means. He comes over to me to ask for something with very specific body language. Ill get up and say show me. He'll lead me to whatever he wants. He's used the command to ask me to get his ball under the couch, play ball, he wanted to go out for potty, treats from the fridge, hungry for dinner, he wants to hang out in a specific room, and some other things I can't figure out or forget.

It's really quite cool. He uses his eyes/face to point to things. If he wants a treat from the fridge he'll stare at fridge then stare back at me.

>don’t weight visual input the same way we do
teaching a command is way easier with hand lures

Animals do both of these things without any training.

Well yeah, but I mean that I trained him to know the words "show me" means show me.

like by doing that you can communicate with your dog by knowing exactly what was on his mind kek
