I have a dog that pretty unambiguously follows camera feeds to know what is happening in front of the house. This is both recorded and sustained by countless observed instances where it looked at the cameras to know someone was coming before they made their presence known. It was not taught behaviour, but self-learned.
The only thing I am uncertain about is if it has the capability to discern that the screen represents the real space in front of the house or if it simply taught itself the "cue" that seeing certain types of activity on it signifies something is about to happen, without making the connection it represents a real space.

it is self evident that they do. dogs generalize words to represent concepts, dogs can understand some grammar. why wouldn't they figure out a "magic window"? dont be one of those retards desperate to explain obvious behavior as a grand machination without a mind

My dog can tell people are walking on the sidewalk far in front of my house, without needing a camera, just by using her ears.

Have you tested to see if his reaction changes depending on what he sees on the screen? Ie if he sees you is he happy, if he sees a stranger is he protective?

It looks stupid but one of my dogs picks up balls and throws them around to amuse himself (a behavior scientists have called proof of self awareness) without ever being trained to (he doesn't play fetch btw), so the dog might be purposefully amusing itself with shadow puppetry.

My current ACD does this with his toys. Also growing up I had a kelpie and a jack Russell terrier, the JRT was obsessed with playing fetch with a stick but the kelpie didn't really care. Sometimes on the beach the kelpie would pick up a stick and run around with it so the JRT would chase her. Pretty clever dog

you're going to first have to figure out what that means.

once you've figured that out, you'll be way too smart for this board, and you'll have come to the same conclusions they teach in first year ethology classes.

The dog self evidently knows that the camera shows what is outside. This may even be aided by the fact that he lacks the spatial intelligence to realize the windows placement does not correlate with what it shows. But all dogs are aware, knowing, and thinking beings as proven every time they're probed by neurologists (AKA ethologists if they did actual science instead of whacking off and doing piss poor, easily and often botched science that makes psychologists look professional)

Yes. We have a business up front. She knows our car and will get very excited when she sees it pulling up. For most strangers she will not react at all. If she sees a stranger approaching the back gate she will start barking and getting angry because he's getting close to the house.
