Relative to poodles they are the better option. Yes, non-straight back GSDs are a mess, that's why I stated straight backs, but poodles are royally screwed too with their breeding pool. Skin problems? Check. Blindness? Check. Physical incontinence? Check. Cancer? You bet. All for the low price of an over priced dog that suffers with neuroticism. They are fucked. If you want something with neurotic impulsions it is a net upgrade to get a husky or a GSD but my personal recomendation would be none of them. Poodles are shit and poodle crosses are always more unstable than the non-poodle breed mixed in. Removed them from the genepool along with pit bulls and you will cut a decent chunk of dysgenic dogs out of circulation.

I agree that miniature and toy variants of poodles are overpriced but where i live standard poodles aren't that much more expensive than a GSD. Honestly, compared to my Australian Shepherd, I just don’t have the same fondness for basset hounds. My Aussie is full of energy, intelligence, and life—he’s always eager to play, learn, and be by my side. There’s a brightness in him that I adore.

Basset hounds, on the other hand, just don’t excite me the same way. Their droopy eyes and slow, almost sluggish demeanor don’t resonate with me at all.
