Basically:
>if you create an online game you need to also develop a parallel secondary offline game that no one will ever play once you shut down
>if it must be online you need to release servers to the public and pray that it remains playable and without vulnerabilities that would compromise its playable state
>if it gets vulnerabilities you need to patch it
Basically kills the possibility of online indie games in the EU. All because europeans are too retarded to not buy games from Ubisoft.

Incorrect, you just need to release it in a state in which the average player can play it single player offline or a private server if multiplayer is forced. Private is the keyword there, as hackers (people exploiting the vulnerabilities) would need to gain access to every single private server and render them all entirely unplayable before you'd need to patch it.

Just release a server binary, game devs somehow managed this all the time in the 90s-00s with far less advanced technology. You don't even have to wait for the game to die to do that, you can do it on day 1. It takes extra work to lock it down and host servers yourself
Anonymous No.936545134 >>936545155
What this would actually mean, practically:

>Singleplayer games with no DRM or online components
Unaffected. It could potentially prevent them from remotely removing the game from storefronts, but it's not guaranteed due to extraordinary circumstances.
>Singleplayer with DRM/online only play
Affected, would require the devs to release an offline patch before removing online components.
This would, likely, also affect mobile games and gachas.
>Multiplayer games
Affected, they would need to release server bynaries or tools or somehow make it offline-capable prior to taking it offline.

Copy and paste this into every thread if needed. Disinfo shills will not defeat us.

Christ, please for the love of god, shut up. Any country in the EU, most of all West Yurop and Scandinavia, are tutorial countries. A retard baby can lice there and enjoy life. In reality, if you failing in a tutorial country is like filing in the tutorial in a game. You do NOT suffer AT ALL. You enjoy videogames more than shitholes do.

basically this.
they should put a threshold on this obligation based on your revenue.
if an indie makes 10k a year and cannot sustain it, why force them to do this?
And since this isn't retroactive, you're letting all the big corpos get away with it but new emerging ones are stuck on this. So only the big corpos can do online purchases and nobody else can.
I can totally see China/India abuse this and steal games from indies for a quick buck.
Honestly, this is just a stupid pirating movement because pirates used to be quiet and pirate and shut up and stupid normies decided to get in on this crap. Nobody cares about an online game from 1990 with no community.

He could just release the server he already had from the beginning. You can't develop a multiplayer game without having a server binary to test with, the locked-down "official-only" server path comes much later when you're trying to monetize.

This
As someone who does, as far as I can follow, a similar job, I am NOT IT. My job can best be described as polishing the shit IT gives me, wrestling the network to get things to work, and filtering the idiot questions of the even less tech literate staff, before kicking any actual problems upstairs. A solid quarter of my job consists of looking around online for solutions to a particular problem while bars fill, then trying those until one works.
It's not a do nothing or pointless job, it does have some understanding requirements above the average person, and I do write some code now and then, but that's NOTHING compared to what the actual computer touchers do. I still cannot follow work conversations between them I overhear, and I can hear the way they change how they describe things so I can make sense of them. That's the best way to describe what I do, I think, I'm the adapter between actual experts, and regular people. I take the time wasting non-questions, and do the finicky shit like gluing shit together on a web page so it looks nice, but I do not manufacture any of the various black boxes that are sent to me, that I barely understand besides where to plug them in, that actually do shit.
The difference is either nobody told him what he was doing wasn't actually game developing, he just saw "video game" manifest around him, and thought what he was doing was central to that process, or he's just desperate for the kind of prestige that comes with it, and his mouth is writing checks his ass can't cash. Given the handful of interactions I've seen that are visible enough for him to enter my field of awareness, I'd say it leans the latter, he seems kinda like an insecure, cowardly person, who would have a hard time not punching up an unflattering resume to be a superhero. He doesn't seem as utterly clueless and ditzy as it would take to genuinely believe whatever secondary or cleanup tasks they had him doing just magically results in a video game.
