You aren't supposed to take it at face value retard, it's the memoir of an unreliable narrator trying to justify his crimes. My take is that it's a horrifying story that is beautifully written. It begs the question, "can the art be separated from the artist?" The artist in this case being the fictional Humbert Humbert, not Nabokov himself. Humbert is a monster, but his writing is incredible.
