Let's have a conversation
/b/ is pretty slow and poor today, so let's have a chat.

I'm an old, white, retired engineer resident in the middle of the UK. Married, no kids, house, cars, hobbies, toys. I have no claim of wisdom, but I have been on the planet longer than, I guess, all of you.
I'll answer all questions honestly (assuming no doxx) and give straight opinions. I reserve the right to ignore trolls.

So let's have a chat. Anything you like. Love, sex, death, engineering, whatever. Over to you

Do you think the UK is actually in a worst state now than it was pre2000s or do people have rose coloured glasses? People are so cynical about the future here but I don't know if I should listen because brits love complaining about anything.

It's possible for me to move to the US (South) but I feel conflicted about where my family will have the brightest future. Not sure where we'd be less fucked tbh

Interesting points. Some of the issues today are apparent due to social media - I'm not saying they cause them, but they are more "out there" and amplified. And, of course, bad stories get more attention than good stories.

There are some aspects that are worse, and some that are better - it's difficult to give a comprehensive, definitive list. But we can discuss specifics if you want.

As far as emigration goes - I did contemplate it, but, while I love the US and enjoyed the many visits and holidays, I'd never want to move there. If I had to emigrate then I think Canada, or maybe NZ (I've heard it's like UK in the 60's, but it's changing), then Australia (but skin cancer would be a risk for me, with Celtic genes).

Some of our problems are that our politicians are intellectual pygmies compared with some of the figures of the past, and the rise of the "professional" politician (PPE - researcher - councillor - safe seat - MP - minister) has not been good for the country

Hi there! I'm a 35 year old software engineer. I'm a /fit/itzen who loves fitness. My question is about relationships.

I have no problem meeting women, including lots of women who want long term relationships. However, I know that I'm going to get older and I won't always be as desirable. I do not want children and am planning on staying single.

I keep meeting older anons who say I'm going to regret it and be lonely. In your experience, is this true? I feel like I don't believe these guys because:

> Almost all the men I know who are married are stressed out and clearly living a worse life than if the were single.

> The only ones who hotly debate this are people who are married <10 years

> Most of these people hotly debating it end up divorced anyway

>It's pretty obvious the magic dies out of relationships after a few years and it's just a fuckload of work

> I just don't think it's for me

> My sex drive is going down and it's making me realize most, if not all of these women have basically nothing else to offer me

I think a lot of these guys have this really dumb "live life the way it was supposed to be lived" attitude, so they end up just doing what everyone else says they should because they can't imagine another mode of being.

What do you think as a single guy?

>What do you think as a single guy?
If you read my first post, you'll see I'm married, but no kids. And I've been with the same woman for longer than you've been alive - we met at college.

I have difficulty with people who think their situation applies to all others - whether what they want and enjoy or what has not worked for them.

In our case, many years ago, the idea of not having children was strange to most of our friends and relatives. But I've never had a problem resisting peer pressure, nor telling the world to go fuck itself. I think there's nothing worse than the people who get married and have kids because "that's the thing to do". And the kids that emerge from those families are often unhappy and ill-adjusted as the wars of thwarted ambitions rage around them during their formative years (raises hand).

Will you be lonely? No idea - who can tell the future? One day either me or my wife will die, leaving an old person who has not been alone for 50-odd years. Will we be lonely? Who knows? Will the remaining one cope? To be determined.

Based on your opinion, do you think the clothes people wear these days are too skimpy? I told others that why they let their kids wear those clothes and they said they wear whatever they want and I becomes the weird one. Seriously, if I have a kid, I dont think I allow them to wear those clothes. But as veteran what do you think?

Not a problem.
Continuing on the theme of children. My observation ios that many people have children as a lifestyle choice, without making the time and effort required to invest and raise those kids. For all their faults, my parents believed that children had to be raised right, so my mother gave up work until my brother and I were old enough to be partly independent - senior school. So when I started school I could already read at a basic level - these days there are stories of children starting school who aren't even toilet trained. And these parents seem to think the state education system system is there to raise heir kids, not just educate them

Having said that, I think items like the cost of housing does make it hard for a young family today, and I don't think I'd like to be young again in today's world

In the 70's and 80's women wearing mini-skirts and no bra was the norm. So I often think that dress today is fine. I'm sure an Edwardian would disagree.
But, demonstrating how acceptability and tastes change, I hate all the ink young women plaster across their skin - particularly in odd places, like on a shin. Looks so trashy (to me)

Before I went to college, I was on a trip around SE Asia with my then gf Lizzie. We were in our last weekend of Cambodia before visiting Vietnam so we decided to go drinking. We got absolutely fucked on the local "whisky" and went to the nearby night market for food. We ate well but we also ended up impulse buying a baby monkey for the equivalent of $40. An actual long-tailed macaque baby (pic related) that was being sold as a pet and sneaked him back to the hotel.

We named him "Monpai" (which was the word for monkey I think?) and played with him in the hotel bathtub for ages but we then started scaring and lightly tormenting him. All you need to do is stare at them intently in the eyes and it absolutely freaks them the fuck out. For those who don't know, when monkeys are scared they do what's called a "fear grimace" which looks like they're grinning but they're actually fucking terrified.

The most physical thing I did was pinch his tail but Liz wanted to hurt him, run him under hot water or toss him around like a ball but I told her no physical hurt or killing. Eventually we tried to have sex but that wasn't happening so we just passed out. In the night though I think she may have gone to the bathroom to hurt him but can't be sure. The next morning we realised what we did so cleaned all the monkey shit from the bathtub and thought of how to get rid of Monpai. She suggesting tossing him out the window but instead we took him to the hotel gardens and left him in a giant planter with a tree in it then checked out.

I have no idea about the fate of Monpai but we didn't get caught. This was years ago... and I ended up losing contact with her a while after we broke up.

Liz was my first ever gf. I don't know what she's doing now because I lost contact but for all her faults I still miss her sometimes :(

3 options:

1. Find someone who has strong OCD who will actually want to clean your house

2. Take crystal-meth and you'll feel so energetic you'll want to clean up

3. Bow to the god of entropy and accept that there's no point clearing the junk when it'll just accumulate again.
