I have a question for you /b/
Is destiny real? As in what has happened was supposed to happen? Or is that just another coping mechanism?

It is not a simple question to answer. All the religious / spiritual concepts of fate are nonsense, of course. But there are facts like being born to academics being the strongest predictor for becoming and academic, your parent's wealth being the strongest predictor for your wealth, generational trauma, etc. All of these put your life on a certain track before you were even born. However, fortune is blind and moody. Nobody's life runs 100% expectedly. Breaking out of your life circumstances is not uncommon. Life is like a river, you never know what floats along with the stream as you sit by the bank; the only thing in your hand is grabbing every chance you get. Sometimes you have try four or five or ten times; don't give up

These are the ones I wanted to know if are real.

You're speaking from a more scientifical and environmental point of view, and that's ok too I guess.

I'll just assume fate is a coping mechanism

The world is so big, unstoppably doing it's thing, and humans so small, just hard to believe there would be a force of nature caring about human affairs. What fate or reward in heaven or similar superstitions give people is meaning; meaning in the face of the clear meaningless of the motions of the universe. It helps to feel, that what you had to suffer happened for a higher purpose. It didn't. It either had no purpose at all or served the mean, cruel purpose of someone else. If you are a critical mind, you will never succeed long term at gleaming meaning from fairytales. What will help you is find a purpose that suits *you*, finding meaning that pleases *you*. On short, you get to chose your meaning and it has to come out of yourself.

Fortune can be a kind of fate, like you can by accident learn about the most important idea of your life and could have also totally missed it. stuff like that is usually clearer in hindsight though
