This is entirely it. The entire point of left wing ideology is to learn and adapt to new information. The reason why university is filled with left-wingers is due to the fact that the more you learn about the word, the more you question previously held beliefs, and as a result, the more left wing you become.
This is also why a lot of left-wingers are smug know-it-alls and overly preachy. They know the facts and logic (or think they do) but, they lack the people skills to explain such concepts without being a cunt about it. They are also more likely to try to be more intellectually honest, which makes them terrible at debates. A rightwinger is much more likely to lie and form their argument around emotional responses where lefties tend to argue on facts and admit when they are uninformed. This isn't how debates are won.
