>They were called trap threads because trannies had not entered the public lexicon
The term tranny is older than the term trap and has been used as early as the 90's alongside shemale.
Trap was the colloquial term for a male who could trap a straight a straight male by crossdressing in a manner that he was indistinguishable from a woman. Trannies were not traps, but they got posted alongside traps in these threads.
As time progressed, newfags entered the threads and the porn industry caught on, the meaning of the word trap got lost which is how it got applied to trannies as well. BUT then it all changed, because Tumblr trannies started to find the word offensive and started to demand that we stop using the word.
THAT's why Pornhub between 2010 and 2010 had a lot of titles with "trap" in them and why the term has fallen into irrelevance now.
And we see/saw the same with femboys. Trannies have hijacked the term too. Often time when you look for femboy porn, you see trannies (men on HRT).
BUT, admittedly, femboys did the same as they posted themselves in trap threads too and we always told them to GTFO, because they couldn't pass as female at all. They were/are just men/twinks in girly clothes with a face and body that would trap NOBODY.
We were barring the influx of faceless images as well, because you can't determine if somebody is feminine enough to trap a straight male if you can't see their face, right? BUT, the influx of fags made it so that they won.
And when the old garde left, it seems /lgbt/ found these threads with all the /lgbt/ drama that comes with it. Trannies and gays then kept the thread alive and that's they added femboys and twink to these threads because they like men even though femboys and twinks are antithetical to what a trap are.
This isn't the trap thread anymore. This is /b/'s LGBT thread.
