John sells shirts 5 for $10.
Trump levies a tariff against John's supplier.
John's personal cost per shirt jumps up 10%.
John's operation costs jump up because his distributor is also getting taxed.
Now John sells shirts 3 for $12.
Meanwhile Jeff B. owns a shipping company and can eat some of that cost.
Jeff B. has a private deal with Trump that allows him to skirt some of the costs related to selling bulk clothing so he can offer 3 shirts for $10.
The customer will choose Jeff's shirts.
This put John out of business, Jeff and Trump get paid because $10 is better than $12.
