Some newfags started the term "reddit spacing" only around 2014.

It was just standard formatting in message boards and BBS. Zoomers on the other hand are all about no punctuation all lower case walls of text that's due in part to phone-posting.

I really don't know. I left here for a long while and when I came back it was all politics, scat spam, and people screaming about text format.
