CA and NYC's biggest problem is that there are TOO MANY people who want to live there and they don't want to build new housing for them. which is why a house costs 1 million dollars. If people were actually fleeing that would be a good thing and make it affordable for the millions who want to live there who can't afford to move there. That's fucking great, actually. All the Republicans fleeing blue states are moving to other red states and bringing their blue state sensibilities with them. They expect functional services and responsive government. When they don't find it in ANY red state they move to (and particularly Texas, which can't even regulate its own power industry) they'll be so disillusioned they won't know which way to vote in the next election, turning those conservative enclaves into purple states. It is the best of all possible outcomes.

Texas was okay in the 1990s, then it started to slide toward the shithole it is today. The only thing saving Texas at this point is the larger cities that tend to attract a more balanced electorate, but even that has its limits. Anyone who's been living in Austin long enough wishes California Republicans would go back to California instead of trying to recreate California in Austin. And that's just one particularly trendy and therefore less conservative city in Texas. There are others.

I eat only organic food. Not the expensive stuff but I do pay a few dollars more to opt out of the GMO human trials.

Also fwiw the 1% pay roughly half of the US income tax burdens. The problem with raising taxes on the rich as countries like Finland and Norway are finding out really fast is they will either hide more wealth in tax shelters or flat out move to countries with a lower tax burden.
