I'm not suggesting everybody grabs a paint brush and becomes a mural artist
I'm simply using that as an example:
EVERYBODY HAS A TALENT OR SKILL
If someone doesn't have at least one natural ability, one skill, one natural talent... there's no reason to live
everybody has at least one
and if shit hits the fan, everyone can barter that talent, whether selling it for money or bartering for services or goods
what with the bleak economic and societal forecast which lays ahead, the ability to trade your talent or skill becomes even that much more important
And it makes perfectly good sense to be an independent contractor, so there is no middleman, there is no boss who's making the money while he's paying you by the hour
everybody has at least one natural skill they can sell, at least one talent they can charge money for
at that point, it's just A matter of self-discipline and waking up early and getting your ass out there and learning how to SELL YOURSELF
because no matter what the talent
You're still selling YOU
You're selling yourself to your clients
And I always recommend using completely original unique sales techniques
for me, the classic JN "I'm the guy who's painting your murals" audacious technique worked really well
It always got their attention, in a cute playful way, but also very self-confident
"Hi. I'm the guy who's painting your murals"
It's kind of designed for them to do a double take, and pay closer attention
at that point, they're like "let's see how he follows up after that"
SO I CLOSE THE DEAL
It's a slam dunk
I make them start thinking creatively
I gesture with my hands, my back turned to the client, vocalizing my vision for their wall
getting their creative ideas going
And invariably, the client will say something like " can you paint a picture of my son somewhere in the mural as well?"
