the mere fact that my predecessors had everything (family, disposable income, housing, etc.) that I want out of life, yet I never will is just incredibly demotivating. it fills me with a deep sense of sadness knowing that I will probably never settle down and live a good life. and the worst part is: in their time, it was seen as normal and common for people to have that. anyone else ever feel this way?

It's a misconception the past was better.
Life has always been harder in previous generations.
School was harder. Work was harder. People were meaner. Etc.
Life was hardcore back then and the people alive right now wouldn't last several days in the 1950s.
