PDI out with a DFS today. Looks like an easy double to 3x in two years or so. Market cap less than A$1B, asset with well over A$3B NAV at current gold prices and huge IRR. The thing with these West African mines is that they are very repeatable and standard operations to build. The low CAPEX is also something that is consistently repeated in the region which is why it's so profitable. They'll need to secure financing and final permits by Presidential decree and then they can build it. But I think one of the mahor shareholders will just take over the company before the mine is built.

>>22862629generally speaking there are delays more often then not no matter where you build it and by whom,
>>22862636Not in West Africa. Can't argue with results.
>Roughly 20 mines have been built since 2010, taking an average of only 1.7 years to complete, which is significantly less than any other region globally. West Africa has an industry-wide track record of delivering projects both on time and on budget. Weโve seen this ourselves in building Ity CIL and Houndรฉ and now our Lafiguรฉ project. Moreover, West Africa offers some of the lowest capital intensity globally at approximately US$100 per ounce, which is more than 20% less than the next region.>With more than 12 mines built in West Africa, Lycopodiumโs track record of building efficient mines on time and on budget is unparalleled.

>>22865449I wonder what's up with that export ban. Do they want to make refined cobalt like with copper? Afaik copper ore exports are totally off limits in the DRC, they require companies to produce refined copper in-country for export.
If cobalt prices come down as a result of these stockpiles perhaps that could offer a nice sale in CMOC shares.

I was checking ebay for gold specimens and saw slabbed quartz with gold from the Sunnyside mine down by Silverton Colorado selling for hundreds to thousands of dollars. I have a bit of that material on hand because my uncle used to work there back in the 80's and he was a notorious highgrader. I'm thinking I might slab one of my chunks since selling just one cut would pay for the rock saw and lap wheel to polish it.
Pic is one chunk from the Sunnyside Mine. I've posted it before but I didn't realize back then what this junk was selling for. My uncle used to crush this stuff by the bag in his basement. Probably made more money highgrading than he did just working for a living, the old bastard.
>>22865831according official CPI it was worth under 500 modern USD, but we know that CPI is a bullshit concept
according to my CP or whatever some random page used to adjust vale of USDI until 1920 then M3 adjusted calculations it's over 14k in modern USD
I think the 2nd is a more realistic valuation of god's purchasing power back then
>>22866607how much gain do you get from extracting it on your own compared to current market price?
>>22866620even assuming amount of gold mined cumulatively increased 2 times since 1880 current "price" in usd has a lot of room to run as we are nowhere near 7k/Oz
>>22866686assuming in 150 years amount of total gold increased 4.5 times (if that famous 1% increase yearly is realistic) we could be fully priced.
The main question is how much gold really get mined and what other factors we need to consider when evaluating honest price of gold.
I think we can try and include change in global population in price calculations.
So it would be:
Price_old*(M3_now/M3_old)*(Mined_now/Mined_old)*(Popul_now/Popul_old)
>>22866692so, when we consider that since 1880 population increased 8 times it means gold could be 8 times undervalued with "honest" price being 24k USD/Oz
unless any big brain here has any idea what other factors shall we include in calculations
>>22866690keep in mind that that 1 percent is anegdotal and is more representative of modern mining than mining of 19the century and earlier parts of 20th century.
19th century mining was like 200 tones a year at best
the youtube crackpots have invaded the thread
supposedly growth of amount of gold mined is more or less that before 20th century we mined only 1/3 of what has been mined in history up until today. Meaning that amount of total gold increased about (probably under) 3 times.
The demand factor is the hardest to quantify as in 19th century silver had still a monetary role among the poor. And huge amount of population had neither gold or silver. So increse in demand nowadays may be even bigger than just mere population now vs then ratio.
Thanks for attending my TedX talk
>>22866725hello mr crackpot
>>22866737That was a stupid tirade. Gold's value is determined by instability. When governments lose power people gravitate towards gold. When trust in governments rises gold loses its lustre. CPI and whatever have very little to do with the price of gold. Inflation does play a role but gold does not track inflation very well, remember back during the stimmy check years when everything but gold was gigapumping and inflation was running rampant.
>>22866765there was nothing stupid, why are you so allergic to analyzing the fundamentals?
>>22866620The way I think about gold valuation is relative to two factors; the cost of mining an oz of gold and the market value of all gold above ground compared to other asset classes like stocks and bonds.
Price of gold has been breaking out against cost of gold mining, which you could say is bearish, but I think it was only a matter of time due to geopolitics and that gold as an asset class has been lagging the valuation of the global stock and bond market.
Global stock market is around $130T vs gold at $33T, this was closer in the past. Global bond market is around $140T.
What this ratio should be to gold is of course hard to determine, but rising instability and tension around the world will cause the gap to get significantly smaller, though some will probably also come from the devaluation of stocks and bonds.
Gold having a terrible week in UK money terms. Moving down with the US dollar. So much for the currency hedge.
>>22866777that's a very interesting point of looking on market vs gold, might help in having some estimated outlook on demand dynamics

>>22874685>What the fuck is Logan energy btw?A spinco from Spartan Delta after they sold their Gold Creek acres to CPG/VRN. Basically Spartan's worse little brother but still carries the same blood so a well managed company even if the assets don't quite match Spartan. Bit gassy but with some work they can probably at least double their liquids production in a year or two. If you're bullish AECO or oil it's a good bottom fishing bet. Not super high quality assets but they have had good liquids results as of late anyways. Their new Simonette wells are tracking to produce over 500,000bbls of oil, that's fantastic.

๐
>>22874700>>22874685more about Logan, they just completed the commissioning of a 10,000boe/d plant at their Pouce Coupe asset. They're currently producing about 3,500boe/d there and they expect to ramp up to 8,000boe/d by the end of the year, and then keep production at 8,000-10,000boe/d for the next 10-15 years.
The Simonette asset produces about 6,000boe/d and has infrastructure in place to support over 20,000boe/d so they have egress to just drill and fill there. That recent Simonette Duvernay well I talked about in the previous post is a top 1% well in the WCSB, which is not that surprising when some of the neighbors (namely Kiwetinohk) have also been producing top decile well results. Logan has about 50 locations at Simonette Duvernay so they could probably increase production to 10,000boe/d there as well and keep it steady for 10-15 years.
Then they have two other Duvernay assets that together have another 100 locations. They are also in the oil window and should have good wells, but maybe not as amazing as the Simonette. These areas are undeveloped but they have a well coming online at Ante Creek this Summer so I'm looking forward to the results there. The reservoir thickness is comparable to their Simonette but the pressure is lower. Their Two Creeks asset is right next to Chevron's Duvernay assets which CNRL bought last year, that area is high quality and well derisked by the neighbors.
I don't think the market is expecting the liquids production to increase so there is a potential information arbitrage in buying down here. I think there's a good chance many of these Duvernay locations will end up producing in excess of 400,000 barrels of liquids in estimated ultimate recovery. The Duvernay inventory is almost entirely unbooked in the reserves. I also think there's a good potential for future value creation with organic acquisitions. The Spartan guys have always been expert at buying acreage for cheap and then developing that into something valuable.
