in australia, a "daddy long legs" usually refers to crane flies, right?
in the US, or atleast in the southern US, i think it's usually a small type of spider

This spring I planted 4 pawpaw saplings. It will be a long wait but its worth it. And when I get fruit I will save the seeds and secretly plant them everywhere for pawpaw supremacy

those are harvestmen which are arachnids but not spiders
you can tell the difference because they have a fused cephalothorax and abdomen instead of distint body segments like spiders
it commonly also refers to cellar spiders and crane flies thoughever

>but ive never seen them in big bunches like that, they are usually solo walking on the forest floor
yeah apparently they do that
i've only seen it while doing some light urban exploration
i see them often, but never in bunches except in weird undisturbed places like big storm drains/bridges
apparently the clusters get much bigger

>it commonly also refers to cellar spiders and crane flies thoughever
i see

are cellar spiders sometimes big & aggressive?
i can't remember anytihng man

also er not fused outright but the connection is broad which gives the appearance of being a silly lil ball with legs insead of regular bug shape
>>23060338
nah cellar spiders are big pussies and their fangs are too small to envenomate humans a lot of the time, and also their venom sucks compared to our chad human bodies

yeees..

i've never encountered any huge spiders now that i think about it
i've encountered black widows and brown recluses in oklahoma, but probably the biggest spider i've seen was a wolf spider
wolf spiders never scared me as a kid, for some reason
maybej ust because of how common they were

>man am I glad I live too far south to see those
didn't know they have those there, but yeah

I'm real glad we don't have super venomous ones like that over here
I actually really would like to handle a large spider or like a tarantula, it's just the ones that bolt super fast that would worry me
or aggressive species like old world tarantulas but only a fool or a maniac would handle those

>I'm real glad we don't have super venomous ones like that over here
yeah
i found the widow in our laundry room
i guess widows and recluses generally keep to themselves, from what i remember atleast?
i know people sometimes find a recluse while grabbing a towel in the shower & get bit that way, though
>it's just the ones that bolt super fast that would worry me
how come?
>or aggressive species like old world tarantulas but only a fool or a maniac would handle those
seems like there's some nightmare creatures in some areas of asia
i didn't know about old world vs new world tarantulas, this is interesting

i think i could maybe handle it, if i didn't look at the spider too much, lol
the faces of some spiders freak me out, like jumping spiders with the big eyes
dunno why

yeah they're fairly docile, the scary thing is that they're most likely to bite if you put on a piece of clothing they're hiding in or if you reflexively swat at them when feeling something crawling on you
>how come?
idk it's like a visceral panic when something zooms fast like that, especially when holding it
might be remnants of the arachnophobia of my youth too
>old world vs new world
yeah man the old world ones are super aggressive it's wild
>>23060407
hah that's funny, I find jumping spiders are the cutest with their big eyes
they're real smart cookies too I love em
understandable though

I held a tarantula at a pet store once and had it crawl up my arm onto my shoulder. It feels really strange, spiders have tiny hooks in their "feet", that allow them to climb vertical surfaces and whatever. You can feel them hooking in and the tug of the hooks when they pull their weight up and start crawling.

makes sense
there's tree roaches here, they don't infest houses but they get inside the house fairly often
they move just like that, and they're very skittish
freaks me out
>they're real smart cookies too I love em
i notice they seem to react when i lean toward them to get a better look
brock said they can remember people

ah that sounds a little unnerving letting it climb that high haha
sounds fun though, I always wondered how their weird hook feet would feel
>>23060453
I've never seen roaches irl thankfully
bet I could just scoop em up though punk ass bugs
>brock said they can remember people
yup, they can recognize familiar faces of people they see often
they can only really see well with their front eyes for like a foot or so though, further than that they use their secondary eyes to detect motion and light
that's why they'll spin around and look at you if you move behind them

yeah they're pretty scary looking which is good cause they're assholes
they don't even have the fuzzy look of new world tarantulas since they don't have the same urticating hairs for defense
