Everytime I go out with my “friends”, especially my higher brow more successful friends, I have an absolutely terrible experience. The conversations are so shallow and socially competitive and their drinking and eating habits are repulsive. Don’t get me wrong. A night out with the boys where you end up coming home sloppy drunk once in a blue moon is an important bonding experience. But I have friends that go out to get drunk every weekend and these are people with high status jobs making half a million dollar salaries. They always make fools of themselves too. Once the novelty of “wooo I’m drunk!” wears off at around early to middle twenties, maybe late twenties if you’re a bit immature I don’t see why you would keep it up into your thirties and forties but many people do. I always tell them I’d be happy to host a dinner or house party but they want to go out. There’s something about being a degenerate drunk clown on a city street that appeals to them at the age of thirty-five.

I've held a full time job for the past decade and never felt like going out like this. The kind of high paying/high status people you mentioned are always on the job, even when it looks like recreation.
