I joined a photography group last month and it's mainly retired old men in their 70's and 80's. Anyway I submitted some of my pictures to them for a competition and they were kind of critical about my photos. They don't seem to like anything a bit unusual in any way. They were complaining that a pic I did of an angel sculpture was too bright - but I made it slightly more over exposed and used a soft focus filter to make the image appear dreamy/heavenly. It seems like these old men don't like and photos that might be a bit arty/modern in anyway. They just take very basic pictures of trains or flowers with no colour grading. Sounds like you just have trouble dealing with critisism even when its constructive and they are trying to help you learn basics before doing arty shit.

Okay I'm just kidding. I can take criticism, but when I look at their pictures they make the colours look very dull. For example if I take a picture in the snow I like to add a blueish tinge to the picture to represent the cold. These oldies keep everything very natural. Like they get funny if I add a slight orange tint to an outdoor picture to stop it looking grey and lifeless. I've been doing photo editing for a few years now so I'm not some amateur.

Im not just being a dick btw I remember speaking to you before and got this impression but Idk if its like you are doing a character, just venting of if its actually what's going on because I don't know you but if this is ur genuine reaction you might be able to make ur life easier if you explored that possibility. Even if it turns out you just need to work on trying to not let ur emotions drive ur reactions so strongly it'll help you not let shit like this effect you negatively :)

It sounds like you just have different objectives and they are just trying to get photos that perfectly mirror human eyesight and you are trying to convey more than just visual information in ur pictures. I can see why their approach seems boring as fuck but you should consider that they probably started out as kids with very cheap shitty cameras shooting on b&w film that they developed themselves and and without a load of shit that people who started on digital just take for granted.
You are pretty much right that they are stuck in the past though because the shit ur talking about has been standard practice for a long time even before digital existed

I like it but to them its probably just out of focus and over exposed which happened all the time by accident on the cameras they grew up on and they think you fucked up and just said it was artistic. They are expirencing the same thing ppl did with paintings when they suudenly went from very impressionist to very expressionist.
