To this day, I don't know what triggers them. You're on some random thread and suddenly bam, OP pic at 80% size. He could clearly drop it to 50%, but puts it out there as an obvious taunt to see who takes the bait. And someone always does, at which point unaware newfags begin asking what's going on, why are people spamming the OP pic with no text or commentary. The file sizes keep dropping and now no one cares about the original discussion anymore, it's just explaining to the newfags the image compressions they're witnessing with some obvious trolls also reducing the quality (may or may not be the same guys, there are no IDs on /g/). But they reach the theoretical limit of size maintaining quality and stop while the guys lowering the quality as well keep going until it reachs 0 quality at 0KB and the thread is finally allowed to die.
Also, fuck jannies, since when is /pol/ humour /bant/? Makes no fucking sense.
