Anons, how long did it take for you to reach a satisfying result with doing your own make up, as in something you would dare to go outside with? I feel so intimidated by the complexity, but really want to get into it. My closet is full of cute clothes that I don't wear (yet) and it breaks my heart each time I look at it...

>Do you notice between treated differently by people, depending on which character you're dressed as?
Yes, kinda. I think it really depends on how forward you are with you being a boy.
I've crossplayed several times in public now and every time has been a slightly different reaction in public. I think it's more been the result of the popularity of the cosplay than the reaction to it, honestly. Something like Chihiro from Danganronpa, for example, got a lot more hits than my obscure anime girl I love cosplay. But I think what was most telling was me going as Madoka recently and getting "they"'d by a girl. Really made me realize I'll probably never escape my perception of being a boy as a crossplayer, but honestly that's fine. I think it's important to be confident in being a "crossplayer" first and "passing" second.
>>10941715
It took me quite a long time to really be satisfied with it, but I'd say I was pretty confident after a year or so of mistakes. 6 months is probably a minimum of how much better you'll get, but it all depends on your own willingness to practice (and your budget because makeup can be a bitch if you're not prepared to spend the money). Either way, the best way you'll be able to get better at it is to just practice, ask for advice from girls (specifically girls, other guys don't give nearly as good of advice), and test out makeup tutorials you find interesting. At the point I'm at I can pretty feasibly replicate makeup from other people myself but it's taken a while to get the right makeup for everything.

other more pressing matter:
my heels cracked, been putting off checking it out for a bit now and idk if its worth going to the cobbler, i got them for really cheap and repair is gonna cost more than them. I spent more on the gold paint than i did on the heels.
i have some shoe glue, but idk if this can be fixed so easily? if its even worth it, should i just get new ones? cant find this model anymore so ill have to compromise again. Other heel doesnt have visible damage but is wobbly idk how to fix that. dont dance the wheel in heels i guess.

If anything as i said it was only the country bumpkin descendant zoomers and woketard philosphy majors who hated me for it.

My barrel chest was an issue for a bit but then I realized that I can utilize it with breast padding to give myself pretty large breasts that look natural. Adaptation is key when crossdressing, and unfortunately not all body types will be able to pull off the exact same type of crossdressing. But you can adapt and do what you think fits your body.

I have the same thing- barrel chest and broad shoulders. I use large diameter breast pads that don't protrude much and also only wear outfits that are tight at the bust and at the waist but not under the bust- that way my chest looks like it's just breasts. Ample hip padding along with platforms do the rest of the work.

Another barrel anon here. I've yet to acquire a chest plate, but my brain is telling me that an average size one with a larger diameter is more than enough to create a large chest which is mainly boosted by the rather large ribs, well basically what >>10942317 says.

No bro i don't really have a problem with it, i wouldn't be doing this in public if i did, i'm built like a rectangle, it's easy for me to manipulate my silhouette. I'm just saying, it's my observation that for (what we ((hopefully)) straight men) consider to be attractive in a woman is when the arms rest on the hips when limp, and that it's easiest to make hip pads to your shape, it just takes a lot of whittling down. None of the process is hard, it's just long.

I cut mine out of 1" medium density foam. For my hips I use a larger "Africa" pad and a smaller oval pad underneath it. I guess I could stick them together with some Super 77, but I haven't bothered. For my butt I use circular pads- two per cheek overlapping for a round butt or just the lower pad for a teardrop shaped behind (I only did that once. A round rear-end looks better on me.)

I've attached a pic someone shared here a while ago. I was intrigued by the idea of using a low-density memory foam over a high-density foam pad. It seems like it would crush down easier so you wouldn't need as tight of a compression layer. I like the idea but I haven't tried it.

Speaking of compression layer- I use three layers of pantyhose/tights with my pads- a loose, oversized pair of pantyhose that I can use to get the pads into position, a pair of support pantyhose to smooth everything down, and a pair of opaque tights over the top.

Does anyone know if the dress in pic related is a real type of dress that I could find somewhere? Does it have a particular name, or are there good search terms for it?
It's both collared and sleeveless, which is a weird combination that I can't seem to find. I'm not expecting an exact 1:1, but it would save me a lot of effort if I could source the basic dress somewhere and simply adjust it to match the final design.

Nobody has ever looked good with foam pads on, you're not special. In motion anyway, it looks stiff and dead like a mannequin. Uncanny like a fur suit when they try to make them curvy, because it's just foam. Weird of you to take it personally, but I guess I should expect that sort of thing from a cross player.

Thank you for your explanation. If you'd explained what you meant in your previous post, we could have the discussion we're about to have without it seeming like you're pissing all over me and/or the other people here who do pad.

I do agree that when pads are too thick- more than 1-1/2 to 2"- they can look unnatural, particularly in motion. That's because wide hips don't just come from extra fat, they're wide because the pelvis is wider. When someone heavily pads their hips, their gait can seem off because the legs seem to pivot in the wrong place.

Some people find that to be some real uncanny valley stuff, and others don't notice at all. And it mostly doesn't show when the person is standing still, except in poses that reveal the location of the hip joint.

BUT- while heavy padding can seem unrealistic, I would contend that it's better than underpadding or not padding at all. The goal (at least for me) is to look as good as possible in my costume, not to look perfect. Strive for perfection but don't let falling short stop you.

And I disagree that "Nobody has ever looked good with foam pads on". If done well, I think they look quite good.

If a different president is stopping you from doing it then you weren't that interested in doing it in the first place.

I don't actually care personally, if you're doing crossplay you're either doing it in a convention center or alone in your house - crossdressing on its own may be another story, but frankly crossdressing in public in America has always been a risk in the first place. You don't need to be worried as long as you know when and where to do it, and you're not planning on crossdressing all day every day.

Gonna go on a small rant here, actually - despite crossdressing as a whole being disdained in America for a while ever since the transgender revolution, the fact is crossdressing IN PUBLIC is generally an issue EVERYWHERE you go, even in the most liberal places in northern Europe you'll be bound to catch some dirty looks or get called a fag. It's not anything really new - it's simply that there's a time and place for it, and doing it all the time always is bound to lead to you getting hurt. Unless you truly are transgender or truly GNC and feel the need to dress/present as a woman every day, you can rest assured that crossdressing/crossplay as a whole will not be in any much of a different situation than it was before.

i find myself in the same boat as you pushing past 30's and looking forward to my first crossplay, so know at this junction that any and all extra effort is necessary and will be well rewarded.

Yeah, I always felt like a lot of the 'ironic' crossplayers were too scared to actually look like they're interested in passing. Then again, most of them have undeniably man faces while being 6 feet tall.
>decent contouring makeup takes a ton of practice and trial & error that I doubt your average convention neck beard can put in
That's why I have a makeup artist on speed-dial for all my cosplay needs. My biggest recommendation to guys around me interested in crossplaying is to get a makeup artist, at least until they can learn to do at least some of this stuff themselves, but they never do. So... when do your feet stop hurting from heels?
It's been almost 2 months now, my right ankle is still sore from it.

I wore 11cm tall block heels from like 3pm to 2am, taking them off maybe 3 times when i was sitting down or had to walk a really long distance.
I got really wasted by the end of the night and i do recall at least one time where i did pull it, but it didn't start hurting until a month later. Well, beyond the normal numbness and soreness they give me.
I asked the women in my life and they all told me they never even wore heels for that long at a time, or ever, hell, most of them told me they were "jealous" of "how well i rock them"

Any advice? I really don't want to go to a doctor about this.

Also by the end of the night one friend stepped on the toe with her marteens and it damaged the skin real bad, as far as i'm aware nothing else broke this time.

>I'm in my early 30s, is it too late to start trying this shit out?
I'm in my 30s too and I don't give a fuck. Started earlier this year and reactions have been positive somehow. Obviously it's gonna vary because some people look young for their age. I'm a mixed bag now but I can still accentuate the factors that make people think I'm younger. I mean that's the magic of cosplay, there's a lot you can hide.

Here's the way I think about it. There have been rock stars that continue to present themselves androgynously even past 30. Hell, the inventor of EGL, Mana, started EGL when he was 30, and continued to crossdress in his career well beyond that. Another example is drag queens. They also continue into their 30s, so it's not just asian twinks that can do it. If these other subcultures can do it, then why not cosplay crossdressers too.

Thanks for the inspiration, anon. Really appreciate it. I'm gonna figure out a nice /fit/ and skincare routine and give myself a goal of looking like a bombshell at Anime Boston next year. We'll see how it goes!

Would breastforms, hip padding and similar be confiscated at Malaysian customs even if I were to declare them? Would importing these once physically inside the country mean risking getting arrested or deported?

it's kind of a crossplay but what I learned from going as testament is that I should have just gone bare legs instead of tights, it's really not that big a deal.

Is animeNYC crossplay friendly? Reason why I ask is I LIVE in NYC, going for the first time tomorrow. Crossdressing is still looked down upon here unlike the west coast from what I experienced, was wondering how the vibe at the con is.

No, every attempt of me looking male has been a failiure.
Got kicked out of the mens toilet on several occasions and at most gotten a few they/thems.
Men in my height do not exist, my chest is visible even when binding and hips aren't easy to hide.
Plus once I open my mouth, it's obvious.

While I'm not crazy about how it felt, I just waxed my face for a weekend of cosplay and it gave me a really good result. Didn't get all of it but what was still there was super easy to shave and didn't show through makeup. I normally have a very visible shadow even after color correcting concealer/foundation so would def recommend if you're willing.

MtF tranny. I personally don't think I pass, but the last time I posted an FtM crossplay in the general cosplay thread someone bitched at me for doing a shitty job of passing as male so at this point I just don't know.
