going to the anime convention near me annually has made me significantly less suicidal.

Itโ€™s a neat thing to look forward to every year. Iโ€™m lucky to live in an area that gets 2-3 major cons per year.

OP here, yeah i donโ€™t have friends but i always try to meet up with at least one person from /cgl/. nobodyโ€™s been local enough for it to stick though haha.

Time to start going to more cons then!
>>10959098
I personally live in a fairly rural area so literally nobody I meet at cons is near me so they just remain as con friends

i usually donโ€™t see them again at the next con unfortunately. i wish i had lasting con friends so i could maybe go to more cons with them in and out of my area in the future. always wanted to go to Colossalcon but itโ€™s too far away.

I'm glad there are anime cons in my area in practically every month. Going to them made me realize how much I hated being so alone.

we used to have 2 in my area but Ohayocon moved locations a ways away. i heard it wasnโ€™t great in the new area though .

I'm 27 and I went to a comic con in my city last week and 10 people asked to take pics with me and I let them but I didn't say anything else to them or try have a conversation because I thought it would be awkward. The convention I went to has a facebook group and there are people making posts asking if people had photos that they took with them. Would it be weird if I made a post in the group looking for friends around my age?

I can tell by these posts who you are. I'll be your lasting con friend when I see you again in a couple weeks homie. Hope you get a little more involved in the rave this time, you disappeared abruptly last year. Regardless it's nice to know these cons have had such a positive effect on you.

Yes. I'm going to GET that motherfucker.

Hopefully there's a thread for the actual con like last year where there were a bunch of people talking about seeing eachother. Might make one myself if not.

It's not too far for the guys I met there, who came from Manchester and Glasgow

your doing it right, however this is too ethereal, meaning by nature it doesn't last in time, so maybe look what hobbies or classes are doing a weekly rate meetings. I know of a dude that is an english native and camps english lessons just to socialize or some bullshit

Sweet. I'm not from the area but the state above. I'm thinking of going to Matsuri this year, but if you do go to any Michigan cons I'm down to hang.

Heck yea. Cons have made me super excited about life again. We have 2x big ones a year locally, january and july (some very small cons also exist). Planning and making cosplay over 6 months, go to con, repeat, is a really nice cycle.

>Would it be weird if I made a post in the group looking for friends around my age?
Not weird, but I would frame it for the con; "hey looking for people my age to meeting and hangout at the con", if you just ask "looking for friends" it might be removed as not relating to the convention. Also, meeting up at the con itself means no-stress if you don't vibe with them and can part ways.

Coulda tried to organize some sort of meetup, they used to do one at Colossal
>>10960391
Really? I went last year (for the first time, admittedly) and it seemed aight. Though I know the year before that was supposed to be a horrible shithow.

i posted some info to make myself recognizable in the Matsuricon thread but since i was always moving around organizing a meetup probably wouldnโ€™t have worked
Anonymous No.10960460 >>10960496
>>10960459
Yeah I saw that, but that's why you set up a time and place beforehand and stay in that spot at least for a bit. At Colossal it was at the bridge and some dude brought a shitload of pizza, was fun.

it's hard to make friends when everyone is already in an established social group, and hanging out with someone who's already by themselves at a con inevitably feels like a stray cat following you to get food, aka desperate

We don't talk about the ACEN group. That was a fluke that keeps happening.
