Its a meme origin. Kona is expensive partially because of the relative cost of american labor. Kona and Blue Mountain are expensive on top of that since Japan like to spend a shitload of money on bland coffee.

Kinda, it's the same style as scotch.
Ine can argue that the specific flavors can differ but scotch is such a broad category that you can have vastly different ones too.
Nip whisky didn't used to be that expensive until it got tons of attention in the early 2010s I think? Afterwards it went nuts.
Point being their whisky is comparable to scotch so I'd expect them to have decent tastes.

I'm not enjoying my coffee lately. Not sure what's going on. I'm wondering if my normal stuff is being processed differently or if it was a change in the milk I normally buy. I was making my coffee like usual and with the same splash of milk as always but it just didn't taste right. Maybe too lightly roasted, or perhaps it was something with the milk because it tasted too milky. I tried adding less milk but it still tasted off and too milky. It's been two weeks now without a satisfying cup.

I purchased some creamer in place of milk (which I rarely do) and it's am improvement but not 100%. I don't think it's covid as I haven't experienced any taste differences otherwise. It's not a huge problem in the grand scheme of things but it's annoying and a little disappointing. I might try drinking more tea or relying on caffeine gummies for a little bit and try again with coffee some time in the future and hopefully my palate will be accommodating. Just complaining to complain I guess.

Does Italy actually have good roasters for third wave coffees?
tangential blog:
I'm torn on Nicaragua; I went there in high school and it's sad how destitute everyone is despite the country being just as beautiful as its southern neighbor Costa Rica. But at the same time, their government are anti-American commie-lite assholes. I hope that the Cuban/Nicaraguan/Venezuelan regimes collapse in the near future, they're beautiful countries and it makes me sad seeing people live like that.
Anonymous No.21397148 [Report]

There are some famous third wave roasters such as Nero Scuro, Ditta Artigianale, Bugan Coffee lab (they also have competition coffees), Garage coffee bros, Hub Coffee lab, his majesty the coffee and some more.

The key is to see if the website has the English language or better it loads straight in English as default language rather than Italian.

Caffelab is specialty but not properly third wave, it also has classic Italian blends and espresso single origins, it’s good but not as good as the above mentioned for filter coffee.

Nero Scuro roasts the lightest overall.

I backed it on kickstarter. Had it since october. Its great. Super easy to clean. Pour, rinse, and run it for a cycle with some soapy water and you're 99% clean. There's just a touch of protein(I use local whole milk) on the bottom that'll need to be sponged out but its not really burnt on yet. Only gripe is I wish the min fill was smaller. Not really a cortado machine. Also comes with a normal whisk attachment like the little handheld whizzers. I've used it to mix up whey, supergreens, mix and heat matcha, whip up a quick simple syrup etc.

I think it'd be perfect for me if it weren't fuck off big. The aeroccino and nf pro are objectively worse products, but I really do like how small they are.

A hand held frother and microwaved milk is an even easier process to store and clean too, I just wonder how comparable the actual milk is to a dedicated heated frother.

Gotchu. Netherlands, spain, sweden. If they don't have what you want shoot them an email and see if they can't get it on their next shipment. I really wish the amethyst ones were out when I bought mine. They're perfect.

Should be fine. There might be some condensation, but most people spritz their beans with water intentionally these days anyway.
Do one shot each with frozen and unfrozen beans and report back.

Are there any commercially available manual grinders with very large burrs/handles similar to pic related? I'm very autistic about cables and outlets, I currently use a Flair Pro + Commandante red clix, but grinding for more than two people is always a hassle.

The 1000 folded nippon machine ojiisan is using is probably a vintage piece that makes atrocious coffee, but you get what I mean.

different beans have different sizes and densities
density also depends on roast level
also some burr shapes/sizes have more or less trouble with certain bean sizes
but this also depends on rpm

Having switched to single origin coffees 5 years ago, I cannot go back to REALLY shitty coffee. That being said, I consider myself in the middle ground between being a hobbyist/snob and not. Now, I can appreciate when its good and bad, but I struggle to care enough to get really really into understanding processes, and growth altitudes, blah blah blah.

I just never knew how flavourless, soulless and burnt tasting crap coffee was until I had something decent. I typically buy whatever the cheapest single origin beans are from local roasters, I have never had geisha beans, and the most I have ever spent on coffee was $95USD / 5lb. (Unfortunately our typical beans just went from $66/5lbs to $80/5lbs)

If you want near-hobbyist level coffee with almost no effort, and you are used to Folgers made in your Walmart coffee maker get the following:
1. Nice beans, anything single origin that's cheap from a good roaster.
2. Burr Grinder - Baratza Encore (Buy used)
3. Breville Precision Brewer (Buy Used)
4. Kitchen Scale. (Brew 60g of coffee for every 1L, or a portion thereof)

It will change your coffee life, and all in, cost you about $200.
