My beans are supposed to rest for one more day but I woke them up early.

>>21391769Wow that's almost more expensive than Geisha
I'm kinda cheap, the most expensive coffee I've bought regularly is ~65 dollars for 2 lbs, I bought a $25 for 10oz coffee from some random roaster back in 2024

>>21391769>200 bucks per kgWhat the fuck? That seems unreasonable, even
vtumor
coffee is cheaper.
Maybe my value expectation is just off, I don't think I've ever spend over 20$ per kg on green beans.
>>21391869Its a meme origin. Kona is expensive partially because of the relative cost of american labor. Kona and Blue Mountain are expensive on top of that since Japan like to spend a shitload of money on bland coffee.
>20$ per kg on green beansThat's probably not too far off their cost. The Darnall Kona was like $35/b green.

>>21391769I bought nespresso pods for the machine at the office. Real coffee tastes better,
>>21391945>Isn't Jap whisky just expensive 'scotch, Japan'Kinda, it's the same style as scotch.
Ine can argue that the specific flavors can differ but scotch is such a broad category that you can have vastly different ones too.
Nip whisky didn't used to be that expensive until it got tons of attention in the early 2010s I think? Afterwards it went nuts.
Point being their whisky is comparable to scotch so I'd expect them to have decent tastes.
Bought some slightly cheaper beans because I want to use them in a machine I have access to. Brewed some with my V60 and the coffee still turned out pretty nicely, but a bit too dark for my taste

I'm not enjoying my coffee lately. Not sure what's going on. I'm wondering if my normal stuff is being processed differently or if it was a change in the milk I normally buy. I was making my coffee like usual and with the same splash of milk as always but it just didn't taste right. Maybe too lightly roasted, or perhaps it was something with the milk because it tasted too milky. I tried adding less milk but it still tasted off and too milky. It's been two weeks now without a satisfying cup.
I purchased some creamer in place of milk (which I rarely do) and it's am improvement but not 100%. I don't think it's covid as I haven't experienced any taste differences otherwise. It's not a huge problem in the grand scheme of things but it's annoying and a little disappointing. I might try drinking more tea or relying on caffeine gummies for a little bit and try again with coffee some time in the future and hopefully my palate will be accommodating. Just complaining to complain I guess.
>>21392784Take a few weeks off from coffee
>>21392784Stop putting milk in it
>>21392786Yeah that's the plan
>>21392794I've always liked it with milk and sugar. I've brought down how much milk I add to it over the years (I used to like it very milky) but I just can't quite get to drinking it dark. I think I could stomach it with a light roast but at the moment I don't feel compelled to experiment. I'm hoping a break will reset my palate.
>>21391536So just regular coffee then yeah
>>21391294 (OP)carfags and gunfags are always competing for top spot for being the biggest faggots until I see pics like this, then it's coffeeniggers by far. at the very least gun and car faggots dont just randomly bring it up. you usually have to enter a conversation about cars or guns for them to sperg out about it.

I'm torn on Nicaragua; I went there in high school and it's sad how destitute everyone is despite the country being just as beautiful as its southern neighbor Costa Rica. I hope that the Cuban/Nicaraguan/Venezuelan regimes collapse in the near future, they're beautiful countries and it makes me sad seeing people live like that.
>>21397108There are some famous third wave roasters such as Nero Scuro, Ditta Artigianale, Bugan Coffee lab (they also have competition coffees), Garage coffee bros, Hub Coffee lab, his majesty the coffee and some more.
The key is to see if the website has the English language or better it loads straight in English as default language rather than Italian.
Caffelab is specialty but not properly third wave, it also has classic Italian blends and espresso single origins, itโs good but not as good as the above mentioned for filter coffee.

I'm getting an espresso machine without a steam wand and I'm trying to figure out my best option for milk frothing. Is pic related plus a minute in the microwave a viable option? Or am I better off with something like the Aeroccino 4 or Nanofoamer Pro?
>>21398428Just get a dreo. Shits on nf pro 2 and aeroccino. They've also got a cheaper baristamaker air.

>>21398470Seems pretty ideal. Will investigate. Ease of cleaning is my only real concern with any of the heated frothers though
>>21398491I backed it on kickstarter. Had it since october. Its great. Super easy to clean. Pour, rinse, and run it for a cycle with some soapy water and you're 99% clean. There's just a touch of protein(I use local whole milk) on the bottom that'll need to be sponged out but its not really burnt on yet. Only gripe is I wish the min fill was smaller. Not really a cortado machine. Also comes with a normal whisk attachment like the little handheld whizzers. I've used it to mix up whey, supergreens, mix and heat matcha, whip up a quick simple syrup etc.
>>21398563I think it'd be perfect for me if it weren't fuck off big. The aeroccino and nf pro are objectively worse products, but I really do like how small they are.
A hand held frother and microwaved milk is an even easier process to store and clean too, I just wonder how comparable the actual milk is to a dedicated heated frother.
>>21398580I'd bitch about the size if it didn't work so well. I've been waiting for something like it for years. Only thing "better" on the horizon is the Meticulous Milk but that'll be hundred more for an actual standalone countertop wand.

What's the best place to get some of these classic, extra thick espresso cups? I found two Italian made ones at my local flee market and I'm very happy with them, but I'd like to have some extra to serve guests.
I don't think I've ever seen a thick-walled espresso cup sold at a store, they're all very slim, regardless of the price. Even on amazon I could only find medium thickness. I like to drink my espresso in small sips, I need cups that I can effectively pre-heat.

>>21399048Notneutral Vero line is great. Heavy commercial glassware. Great shape, color options and big wide facets to hold onto.

>>21399340>Their heating program is pretty spot on. Minimal scalding.I have been using my Aeroccino to heat up non-coffee drinks lately while I wait for my microwave to get fixed. Would it be good for this sort of application? Is the base where the magnetic spinner connects sealed like it is in the aeroccino, so that the liquid could never touch the inner machinery?
>>21399374Yep. It's just a mini (induction?) milk kettle. The magnetic spinner doesn't actually connect to the 'base'. It sits on a post in the pitcher. Pitcher and base are completely separate.
>>21399388Thanks for the recommendation; it's coming Saturday. I don't have an espresso machine but I'm sure I can make something enjoyable with my Aeropress.
>>21399417I remembered that this brand existed. It's like a knock-off Libbey, but you can buy them in a set of 6 (instead of 36) and they're cheap.

>>21399417Little more shilling to tip the scales. My notneutral cortado glass weighs 350g. You could probably crack open an entire coffee shop of skulls and it'll be fine. You drop it on tile it might just bounce and break the tile. Expensive, but you can buy singles instead of a case.
>>21399048I'm very confused why all the links you got recommended are for glassware. Maybe I haven't had enough coffee today, but I think you want something like https://shop.mokaconsorten.com/Extra-dickwandige-9-mm-kleine-Espresso-Tasse-Sorrento-weiss-Nuova-Point-62-ml or https://shop.mokaconsorten.com/Moka-Consorten-Editon-Besonders-dickwandige-10-mm-Espresso-Tasse-Bar-Italia-XS-weiss-56-ml

u guys wait for your frozen beans to get to room temp before grinding or nah
>>21399834Single doses no. Entire bags yes. Pull them out the night before so condensation doesn't fuck them.
>>21399834Should be fine. There might be some condensation, but most people spritz their beans with water intentionally these days anyway.
Do one shot each with frozen and unfrozen beans and report back.
Are there any commercially available manual grinders with very large burrs/handles similar to pic related? I'm very autistic about cables and outlets, I currently use a Flair Pro + Commandante red clix, but grinding for more than two people is always a hassle.
The 1000 folded nippon machine ojiisan is using is probably a vintage piece that makes atrocious coffee, but you get what I mean.
>>21399866>very large burrs/handleshows this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL65i1XhVec
this is basically as big as you can get in modern grinders
>>21399873>$1650Probably a fair price all things considered, but a little out of my range. Maybe I can find a used one.
Looking at getting a bean to cup machine, below 600ish. For everyday use either at my work or at home I will decide where I want it based on size.
If you could choose between
Delonghi Magnufica Evo
Gaggia Prestige
Philips 5400

If they had put a realistic price they'd have sold out for sure. A bripe and a Japanese millstone grinder, do you need more?

>>21395172If I am trying something new, or looking for equipment I will reference his channel. I watched his video on the Breville/Sage Precision Brewer before I bought one.

>>21399191regular ass mugs. My favourite is from a national broadcaster. We got some from Zoo trips. Some from a book store. I think we have one somewhere with a picture of a horse on it.
>>21400779rightly so.
new beans get stuck a lot on the grinder, what's the deal here? humidity? it's not hard to remove with a brush, but curious why so big difference between this and previous beans
>>21401140different beans have different sizes and densities
density also depends on roast level
also some burr shapes/sizes have more or less trouble with certain bean sizes
but this also depends on rpm
and yes humidity
>>21399487>Extra dick wand I guessGermans...
>>21400819Supermarket coffee prices have doubled in most western countries, actually. Specialty coffee has only increased by about 20-30% I'd say, so it's not as notable if you buy good beans.
>>21401293>SupermarketWHO GIVES A FUCK
>>21399585Unless you have barista championship judge level taste buds, it will probably be an incremental improvement at best, and you'll get higher variance in taste from every other part of your setup.
>>21399636Depends, mostly on roast level and brew method. Hoffmeme has a video about it. Search for "coffee resting Hoffmann", can't be bothered to find it for your rn, sorry, but good luck and have fun!
>>21401299Calm down, I'm just saying. How many cups have you had today?
Trying the big cup today. Usually my batches are bad when I make the big cup.
how much better is specialty coffee vs supermarket ground coffee? say a folgers or something is at 5/10, where would an Ethioian bean from a local roaster that you grind at home and make yourself rate? Im considering getting into coffee but i cant see myself becoming a hobbyist, im mostly just interested in making my daily black coffee taste better
>>21401499>how much better is specialty coffee vs supermarket ground coffee?infinitely
>where would an Ethioian bean from a local roaster that you grind at home and make yourself rate?500/10
>>21401499it's completely different because comercial coffees are very homogeneized and blended to avoid surprises to the buyer. it's not "bad", but it's very generic and roasted to remove any character
>>21401562Nah it's bad. I'd rather not drink coffee than drink Folgers.
>>21401482Stop making big cups.

>>21401611>overpriced>weird flavors and smells>not enough mushroom to do anything
>>21401632You mostly described specialty coffee
>>21401499Having switched to single origin coffees 5 years ago, I cannot go back to REALLY shitty coffee. That being said, I consider myself in the middle ground between being a hobbyist/snob and not. Now, I can appreciate when its good and bad, but I struggle to care enough to get really really into understanding processes, and growth altitudes, blah blah blah.
I just never knew how flavourless, soulless and burnt tasting crap coffee was until I had something decent. I typically buy whatever the cheapest single origin beans are from local roasters, I have never had geisha beans, and the most I have ever spent on coffee was $95USD / 5lb. (Unfortunately our typical beans just went from $66/5lbs to $80/5lbs)
If you want near-hobbyist level coffee with almost no effort, and you are used to Folgers made in your Walmart coffee maker get the following:
1. Nice beans, anything single origin that's cheap from a good roaster.
2. Burr Grinder - Baratza Encore (Buy used)
3. Breville Precision Brewer (Buy Used)
4. Kitchen Scale. (Brew 60g of coffee for every 1L, or a portion thereof)
It will change your coffee life, and all in, cost you about $200.
>>21401499how shit is american bought grocery coffee compared to eu?
I mean even Lidl preground coffee is not bad
although I don't remember the last time I've had speciality coffee or have then need to go beyond normie brews
if you cap out your brewing method a store bought coffee is good enough for me
