My dad was a cook in the navy and he made a mean beef stew back in the day. He's not dead, he just hates cooking now
I didn't really appreciate his stew when I was young but now it's one of my favorite meals, especially when it's as cold as it is right now in Winter
He also made pretty good silverside with mashed potato and broccoli but he knew how to make that before he joined the navy

From my understanding since world war 2 they have generally just eaten every day populars meals of the age and classic staples. The crew eat cafeteria style except perhaps on special occasions or before battle if it can be done. The officers get a fine dining experience with service and standardized decorated silverware but with the exact same food the crew is eating, but I think they may also get a few small treats now especially now and then. I just kinda half haphazardly watched a naval dining history YouTube channel for a while in the background while I did other things tho.

US Navy "traditional" foods have included:

Because the little ships usually didn't have room for ice cream making facilites or large frozen stores, rescuing say, a pilot who had got shot down off an air craft carrier they would swap him for ice cream.
If you get lobsters your tour is getting extended.
if you get fancy stuff like fresh steak or some kind of fast food delivery like pizza then SHIT IS ON and you're about to fuck someone's day up.
Submarines get better food than surface ships, or at least more of it to last longer.
Most ships get sysco slop or the local equivalent whenever it docks and replenishes.
