Agreed. I like carrots and I like hot dogs but carrots as a replacement for hot dogs is fucked up and retarded. I'd rather have one of them nasty tofu pups than a carrot dog. Hell, you could make a veggie burger but long, slap it in a dog bun and it would be way better than a carrot dog.

The OP's image is a real photo. There's no reason whatsoever to assume (or "assess") that it's not.

I wouldn't treat this as a "replacement" so much as its own item. A roasted carrot sandwich is basically just carbs on carbs but I also like croquette sandwiches, fritter sandwiches, etc so this isn't too different IMO

It's absolutely a replacement for a hot dog. That's why it's in a hot dog bun and has traditional hot dog toppings and scorch marks from being cooked on a grill. It's a dumb vegan/vegetarian thing like using a portobello cap as a burger patty replacement.

Sorry I wasn't really clear. I meant that I personally wouldn't do this and call it a vegetarian hot dog or whatever the fuck. Just a carrot in a bun. I also probably. wouldn't top it with traditional hot dog toppings. I'd imagine some type of glaze would be good with this, maybe a pepper relish. Idk, but not fucking ketchup and mustard.

However I will say that a grilled portobello cap isn't that bad as far as a sandwich goes. Generally would prefer a regular beef burger but it's not something I'll totally reject. Honestly would rather have that than an impossible burger or even worse, a black bean burger....

Honestly new york style sauerkraut and mustard toppings would probably work fine with a roasted carrot although i think a sturdier bread roll would work better than a hot dog bun.

Sure, I think a chewier sourdough roll would be a solid choice, but a steamed potato hot dog bun would be pretty good too. Fuck I might try that later actually.

>Honey+bourbon glazed and grilled carrot
>whole grain dijon

I feel like it's kind of leaning into a simpler version of a thanksgiving leftover sandwich. Would be good with a hard seltzer or something

Black bean burgs can be good though. Portobello sandwiches are delicious but I think treating the cap like a burger replacement and putting them on a hamburger bun with burger toppings is gross. Much better on real bread with condiments and ingredients that compliment the mushroom. I generally don't like treating vegetables as meat substitutes and much prefer to prepare and eat vegetables like vegetables.

I mean I generally agree but I also like veggie sandwiches. I hate black bean patties, never had a good one barring one dive in an old college town that mostly specialized in making Cuban Fritas, so they actually knew how to into beans.

Like, I'm not gonna put ketchup and pickles on a fucking portebllo "burger" but if it's grilled well it can definitely hold its own against a middle of the road burger. I think having a good bun for a veggie sandwich is more important than a regular burger, honestly. Harder to get right

I like veggie sandwiches a lot as well but I don't like them on burger buns at all. I think they're way better on a baguette or ciabatta or some other kind of real bread. And finding a good black bean burger is hard, yes. They're often flavorless, leaden pucks of mush. I prefer to make them at home. There are a lot of good recipes.

I think "burger bun" is such a wide category at this point you could be absolutely right or way off depending on what you're picturing.
>portobello on a wonderbread roll = shit
>portobello on a good kaiser roll = potentially decent
You're right though, crusty bread would do it a lot better than any routine burger bun.

Also if you have a good black bean recipe, post it, because my gf complains during the summer that we eat too much meat but I don't feel like grilling like 3 different meals

the vegan one is shit too, I don't argue that.
