I was a picky retarded eater as a kid in the 90s. Didn’t like onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, pickles, mustard, cheese, mayo, most meat, fish, etc, but thankfully I realized how retarded I was being and the inability to enjoy a succulent meal with other people forced me to change my eating habits and eat real food I thought l hated. Now I love all kinds of food and am no longer picky. It seems like the extreme kind of disordered picky eating I engaged in as a kid has become the norm for a lot of young people and adults. Back when I was a picky eater, it was recognized as not normal behavior and everyone from adults to other kids thought I was fucking crazy for being so picky.

A good homegrown tomato is amazing, it's a fucking fruit you can just pick up and eat whole. Better than any apple or banana or pear. Even better with a pinch of salt.
The shit tomatoes you can buy in any store are flavorless slop. Weird texture, no taste, really hard so it can survive transport and stay fresh for years.
All the picky eaters who seethe about tomatoes are just city troons. A lot of picky eating comes down to you just growing up in the city.

Mass farmed tomatoes just taste like slight acidity and nothing else. They are farmed for maximum possible volume, not flavor. Even the fanciest organic ones.
I used to think both tomatoes and cucumbers were shitty until I tried some that I grew myself. When the plant grows in its own soil without being forced to produce water-bloated fruits as fast as possible, and without competing with 6,000,000 other plants, you get tasty fruit. The tomatoes I've grown had a really pronounced savoury flavor. There's a tiny hint of this in store bought tomatoes, but it might as well not be there. They taste great by themselves and the sauce they produce tastes amazing. The cucumbers I've grown had a defined cucumber flavor. Similarly to the tomato, that flavor is present as a hint in store cucumbers, but is barely detectable. Whereas the home grown cucumber was actually enjoyable to eat all on its own. Pretty much all produce is like this. Another example are mushrooms, which taste like nothing from the store but have a great flavor if wild foraged.

There's a reason it's the most prized vegetable in most home gardens. Ripeness and growing conditions make a much bigger difference than almost any other food

raw tomatoes have that combination of tart and acidic that I find very unappealing. Tart foods should be sweet, like berries.
The tartness goes away with cooking so it comes a non-issue.
