It kindof is a scam when a 16oz jar of honey is $18 and the 16oz jar of honey with a slab of wax in it is also $18, you're only getting like 12oz of honey for the same $18.

It'd be like paying $20 for a packet of saffron but saffron+ has little twigs in the packet in lieu of saffron while you still get to pay $20 for it. Just because you didn't know polysaccharide cellulose rods added is just a waste product doesn't make it not a scam.

I assumed honeycomb was some kind of crunchy tasty thing and not a chunk of wax. I'd even seen people eat honeycomb in videos.

Then I learned it was wax and eating it is basically nonsense and I'm more informed now. That's how life works. People aren't idiots because they lack random bits of knowledge.

Yes I bought one of these for the first time last week. Was super excited to try it. As soon as I get home with all of my groceries before I even put my milk and meat in the fridge I pop open my honeycomb and honey jar, stick my fingers in, and take a big bite of the comb eating it with my hands. I chew it for a little bit, tastes like good honey. But pretty soon I realize I just bit into a candle. What the fuck. I'm chewing on this shit and it's literally just wax. Sat down at my computer while chewing it and had to google if it's okay to swallow wax. Absolute scam.

OP makes a good point
I also always assumed these were delicious. they look really cool.

how are you even supposed to get all the honey out of the comb? seems like a novelty present, not practical at all

wtf are you talking about. filling the hive with honey makes the bees raise some new queens and then swarm to make new colonies. its just how they proliferate naturally and nothing like mouseutopia.
you can also just centrifuge the honey and put the empty comb back into the hive and the bees will fill it back up. making new comb takes a lot of energy and theyll make less honey.

this is true, however. a steakhouse will charge you like a literal hundred dollars for a $20 slab of meat with 5 cents of salt and pepper on it.

And it never occured to you that naturally their hives are destroyed by weather or animals from time to time, huh?

if you're a beekeeper you're ideally avoiding your hives getting destroyed from time to time

If you've been beekeeping, you'll know that extracting the honey is an inherently destructive process.

I did but buying a "centrifuge" to get honey at your house sounds incredibly retarded instead of leaving that to the professionals

You know what's the number 1 cause of colony collapse in bees? No its not bears, no its not building or construction though the destruction of wild flowers has decimated the number of bees in any given area, its disease.
Guess what the two major sources of disease are for bees? Defecating in the hive and old honeycomb.
Why old honeycomb? Because bees have only two ways of cleaning: removal or destruction. When you harvest honey and take the honeycomb out, you are ensuring that the colony is going to be more resistant to disease while also tamping down on antisocial behavior that happens in colonies when they are full of honey.
Bees are industrious by nature, and frequent harvesting and removal of the comb actually does help domesticated hives live much longer and healthier lives than wild hives do.
I don't see the point in using a centrifuge unless you're lazy and see the bees more as a tool or biological robots than a living thing that at least deserves basic care.
Besides the little fucks are industrious and productive as fuck, 1 hive can easily be filled with honey at need harvest at least 3 times in the spring and summer season.
