i don't know why you autists keep making this thread but sardines are never good.

case study: when wuhan flus happened and my city went into a partial lockdown, almost all the tuna cans disappeared from the supermarkets.... the sardines were still full on the shelf. likewise "Shin" corean cup noodles. nobody buys that shit!

ell oh ell

I wish normalfags didn't catch onto them, I miss when they were actually cheap, the decent quality brands are like $3 a tin right now which is insanely expensive when you can get a pound of various kinds of meat for the same price

literally no one bought them. during economical lockdown and hoarding scare or during normal years. no one bought them. if the prices went up, like with all fish food, it wasn't due to any people buying them. you fullretarded sardine shill.

I tried them for the first time a few days back and liked them, but I didn't find them amazing. For something in a can I was hoping for a vinegary, pickled taste and not just plain fish. Still, good to know I like something canned that I can eat at any time.

Honestly just get Brunswick. These are fine for a sandwich and at the correct price point to still be worth it. Anyone who gets king oscar is literally insane. Additionally, don't bother with anything not suspended on olive oil, it's not like tuna, it does not hold up well in any other liquid and will taste like vomit as a result.

Yeah. Mercury accumulates in tuna because it's a large fish that eats smaller fishes. Small fishes like sardines or anchovies eat krill or some shit and therefore never amass those high levels potentially dangerous to us

On an unrelated note, i always dress my canned sardines in a lot of lemon or vinegar. It completely neutralizes any fishy odour, although I don't mind it and a good can will only have a mild odour anyway.

It's not a luxury food, there's no point in paying $4 for it. It's supposed to be a budget food. Just buy fresh salmon filets at that point.

>It's not a luxury food
It can be! In Portugal, where the tinned sardine comes from, it's considered a delicacy, and historically great care has gone into selecting only the finest fish. Special tins were even packaged specifically for Portuguese royalty.
It's only in recent history that the humble sardine has taken on its pedestrian character as a cheap food product, but there's no reason it necessarily has to be that way.

How do I make them less fishy? I enjoy tuna, salmon, snapper, etc but sardines are wat too potent for me. I made fish cakes and they're good but too time consuming. Ideally I just want one other ingredient I can mash together with the sardines and have a nice mild fish taste. Crackers and sauce are not enough

Or, maybe, juuuust maybe, you could not eat the thing you clearly don't enjoy instead of trying to invent ways to not taste it.
Herring is a naturally oily fish, and that's where the fishy flavor is held. It's never going to taste less fishy. If you want to mask the flavor of it, then why even eat it to begin with? Just eat a different kind of fish. There comes to be a point when you add so many other ingredients to something just to mask a flavor that you don't like that you may as well not even include it at all.
