Corn is one of the key thanksgiving crops. Didn't you pay attention in class? They spent all that time explaining how the settlers were introduced to corn(or maize) by the natives. Thus corn is a thanksgiving traditional. Making any various corn dish is completely normal an acceptable. If anything, stuffing has to justify itself.
