Using a microwave shouldn't be a drab affair of heating your lonely incel meal.
It should be an exciting and dynamic

idk man if somebody is capable and willing to hack my fridge that's the least of my concerns. if somebody is maliciously targeting you to a degree they would do that and have access to your networks, they could a lot worse things. don't get me wrong, a wi-fi controlled appliance is still pretty useless for the most part but getting hacked would be pretty low on my list of worries.

I can kind of see how it would be convenient to like, start preheating your oven remotely for example. but I doubt it's worth whatever extra costs a wi-fi stove incurs.

because having a single shitty touchscreen loaded with unoptimized software that an intern coded in a single weekend is much cheaper on the manufacturing side than designing, molding, wiring, and installing individual plastic buttons.
chalk it up to capitalism. reducing costs to increase profit is the only goal. fuck having a usable product, people will buy it anyway if you just flood the zone with malfunctioning shit.

I have an induction stovetop with touch-buttons on top. It's the kitchen that was already there when I moved in and fuck buying a new one if I won't spend my life here.
Anyway, my mom used to have one of these and they react to heat, so anytime a splash of water from the boiling pot hits one of the buttons, something happens.
It's not dramatic, but it's such a bad design.
The next one will be one with knobs.

I’m not saying this can’t happen, but in order for it to happen the people implementing it would have to be absolutely retarded and ignore every known good practice.

Realistically, firmware updates would: wait for inactivity, download update, verify integrity, lock out user control (this is the part people would actually complain about), apply update, restart and unlock controls. Bonus if they cache the previous version and roll back if the update fails.

Where are my automated kitchens? I want to pre-heat my oven when away ffs.
>liability
If I'm cucking out with automation you bet I'm going to have sensors and shit all over my home. If the fucking heat gets too intense then let the god damn oven shut off by itself if it detects dangerous hot spots plus fire and smoke. If I don't get home as per the big brother network KNOWS where iam at all times, then stop the fucking pre-heating if my gps shows 10 miles away still. Companies love this intimate data shit no matter how many popups they let me click "deny all" on.
>hacking
WE HAVE SELF DRIVING CARS WITH THEIR OWN INTERNET CONNECTIONS. If they determine the risk of hacking isn't that dangerous then put that wifi enabled shit in my home too and I don't mean a fucking smart juice press or """social""" pepper grinder. Real shit that requires a modicum of self preservation to not lose your fingers as it's scheduled to run when you least expect it.

It's not so much keeping track of all the machines.
Very few machines in any setting are connected to some closed network for monitoring purposes.
There would be no reason to do that for things like a deep fryer for instance, there's nothing to monitor other than oil level and temperature; a pair of eyes and thermometer can do that.

Touch screens are useful in a kitchen because less gaps for bacteria to grow in, easier to wipe down at the end of a shift.

>their social credit system
doesn't exist, and everything about this supposed system you want to complain about already exists in the american credit score system except its managed by privately run for-profit banks instead of a publicly accountable government

Personally, I think making everything in cars a touch screen is way dumber.

Yes, it is your life that is depressing. What is your friend supposed to do? Sigma grindset retard mode? Some culture war horse shit? Gymbro slop?

More potential points of failure and they can sell them for a higher price. If they require an internet connection, it's to steal your data/spy on you.

to appease investors.
In their sick mind everything must always be improved.
They check to make sure that changes are constantly being made. They do not check to see that those changes are better.
Somebody got promoted behind this abomination. You see it a LOT in the modern world.

go to /o/ and ask this same question. you'll probably get an earful. it's a real annoyance among car people but not only do they work less well but they are measurably less safe in automotive applications. the reason for the proliferation of capacitive buttons is primarily about cost, but also because consumers have been duped into perceiving them as futuristic and luxurious rather than cheap garbage, which they are.

touch controls are dangerous in a car for obvious reasons, but I'd say they're also dangerous in a kitchen where hot stuff and fires can happen. I'm not sure they're even better in the case of spills, because the button becomes nonfunctional while spilled on. if you spill something hot on it you can't turn them off with an object either since they're all capacitive (resistive sucks too).
