No you're a fucking retard, 10 years just doing the rice is literal retard labour, it's not even that intricate of a food, it's literally just seasoned rice with raw fish.
The same 10 years could be spent getting an actual culinary degree at a good school or a Ph.D in some subject, god what a shitty movie.

The pursuit of perfection in making food is literal second-hand cuckoldry, you are literally devoting your life to a skill that is primarily enjoyed by other people.
Oh yeah and also he has the gall to get mad at you if you don't observe the myriads of ridiculous etiquettes like dipping the food in the soy sauce at the right angle, using ginger after/before the sushi and many more stupid idiotic nonsense that no other cultures really give a shit about.
It's literally just food, it's not that big of a deal.

It's a pleb filter. Any dickhead can come in and learn rice in a week. Learn slicing in a week. Learn packing sushi in a week. Learn seasoning and plating in a week. And after those couple weeks he can pump out okayish sushi.
But someone who's willing to go through the struggle and put in the dedication and humility to master the basics for a long time has the dedication and drive to learn and put real mastery into the finer details. The real masters aren't going to give away their secrets to some dickhead off the street who "proved" himself by cooking rice for a month.

Japan has a lower birthrate than America.
Japan's men are malnourished midgets with scrawny bodies compared to the much taller stronger American men with actual eyes that are open.

You can't talk about society in Japan when the Japanese themselves say their own society is hell. You tried to deflect from the fact that your meme food that is just tiny rice with tiny fish is shit but ended up embarrassing yourself. Btw weeb, they don't even want you over there. They hate gaijin.

constant progression is possible, it just requires constant repetition. People don't stop improving until they stop doing the task every single day. I do skilled mechanical shit for a living and someone who has done it for 5 years is considered borderline retarded, but people who have done it 30 years are also sometimes retards because they spend all of their time telling other people how to do things instead of actually doing them. Those who have 15-20 years experience and actually still do the work are those who are the best at both knowing how to do something conceptually and still actually doing it on a daily basis.

You don't need 10 years to learn how to cook fucking rice.
There's nothing in the kitchen, literally NOTHING that takes that long to master.
Even a teen girl who works part time as a baker in my country learns croissants after a month and practically masters them after at most 6 months.
Sushi isn't that hard, it's only glazed because they have access to better ingredients, it's literally just fish on rice-vinegar rice.

Sushi, especially in Japan, is the ultimate example of diminishing returns. I could go to a Jiro type place and have a meal for ¥30000. Or I can go to a decent place in my neighborhood and get a good lunch set for ¥3000. The Jiro place is 10x better? No, fuck off. Anyone who spergs over sushi is a fucking fag.

It's essentially the same shit they do with katanas, significantly more effort to make a product that is of worse quality than what we make in the west.

Not him but it's a sad waste of many years of your life. You'll say "well but it's about the discipline you learn" and I would ask you why he could not channel dedication towards things that aren't just rice to learn such discipline? The rice wasn't getting any better after a couple years, so he likely spent at least 7 years not learning anything new or expanding his knowledge and techniques.
Anonymous No.21428761 [Report]

That's all food to an extent but the jap way is one of repeating one specific particular technique for an eventual 1% diminishing change in result that they will insist is better or right. I can see why they so strongly believe it, because if you spent your whole goddamn life making things 1% different and decided that it actually wasn't an improvement, the already suicide-prone creature would sudoko himself right then and there.

>It may be autistic but that’s the Japanese way for things like this
Yeah it's obviously the Japanese way but it's fucking stupid and a waste of your one life on this earth man. It deserves lampooning. Jiro would have been a better chef if he spent those 7 years learning other techniques with rice from other cultures involving different preparations and ingredient bases, and he would be better equipped with deeper insights on the food he works with. But the japanese way is not to think critically or understand things on a level deeper than "this is how it was always done and this is how I will always do it."
It's worth no more respect than what you would give to any person spending their career in a particular field they are passionate about(which in its own right is worth a good amount of respect, don't get me wrong there). But within that echelon of people who have dedicated their lives to a particular pursuit, it is worth far less respect because you spend less time truly engaging with your passion, instead mindlessly worshipping its past. But people see this sick japanese mindset as something of a spectacle, so they give it a confused reverence because they themselves are rightfully not stupid enough to waste 10 years of their lives on sushi rice specifically.

Of course, you seem to be avoiding the "worse" showcased in what we're actually talking about I see. Are there good things about jap society? Sure absolutely. This topic of a man flushing 7 extra years of his life away on sushi rice that he no doubt already had perfect just because 500 years ago things were done X way, is that one of the better things? Fuck no it's not and it's as sad as a different society being bad in a different way. I don't see you actually disagreeing with me about it either, just bringing in other shit that's unrelated to this massive waste of a man's only life on this planet.
You can take pride in doing sushi without prostrating your mortality to the altar of your elders. Jiro's food would have been better for it, ironically. You cocksucking weeb.

Is he just spending 7 years doing the same thing with rice everyday? Or is he experimenting with different kinds of rice and ways to prepare it?

There's actually a lot of different types of rice.

In general, Brown rice is quite different from white rice in taste and texture. It's healthier due to the amount of fiber (which is removed in the process of making it white), but idk if it would fit in sushi.

The difference between sushi made by a decent sushi chef with fresh ingredient for around 100$ or less and super-expensive sushi chefs is neglible.
Reminder that most taste tests done on michelin chefs being given cheap wine and mcdonald's has revealed that they rate them as high as fine dining, the pricetag is a scam.
