mostly I come up with my own, but otherwise the better homes and garden recipe book from before the 70's. occasionally from foodnetwork.

I check Serious Eats, then usually compare to ATK and read through the ATK comments. Most of the time I'll end up largely using the ATK recipe with some tips from Serious Eats/reddit

I used to collect cookbooks. There was a short period of time before online recipes could be found on functional blogs and websites. Pinterest sucked up so much. Yard sales and estate sales are difficult to use and book stores are usually all new crap like cookies or holiday specifics. Most of the pdf downloads are moderately good but after COVID they ended up like anime streaming and don't always work. I guess it all depends on the area of food now.

I look up a bunch of recipes for the thing I want to make, find the common elements, and add the differing elements among them that seem nice and go nicely together.

I look on the internet and then disregard everything I dislike about every recipe I see and make my own based on them.

Allrecipies.

I just bounce around until i find one with a ingredient list that seems reasonable.
Anonymous No.21429832 [Report] >>21430166
Babish is self-aware enough to upload this as a bit knowing full well the implication considering his past. He's a good sport. Love the guy, it's a shame he's just doing tierlist content slop instead of actual recipes now. Ironically it's the side characters in his "culinary universe" who've taken the mantle cooking actual food now

I devise my own recipes after gathering the essence of the dish through reviewing youtube videos,
then refine with AI counsel,
tailoring it with ingredients on hand and preferred cooking methods and apparatuses.

I found a cheat code to avoid SEO and blog hell. Do your searches in another language with your location set to whatever nation that language is from. It at least works with Spanish and LatAm.

Thirdies have not gone full retard and shit up their portion of the internet to the same extent the occidental enclave has incurred. The downside is not being able to find every recipe. That's why I like AllRecipes. 9/10 times there isn't a 5 page blogpost about the cook's dog's friend's potted plant dying in a typhoon in Minecraft.

I tried using LLM ("AI"), but they're not good enough yet. The software or whatever condenses and mixes too many recipes and I end up with a laundry list of ingredients that clash with the intent of the dish.
Anonymous No.21429847 [Report]
I look up a recipe only for ingredient and watch a couple of videos of people making it. Usually chef john and some person that grew up making the dish. That is unless its basic shit that i have made many times with different ingredients. I like consulting with chatgpt now.

yeah you can always tell when its a thumbnail from that fucking faggot weisman. its always him comparing his meticulously created, expensive ingredients, professional chef process foods to mass produced ones, interspersed with his horrific editing and voices. god i hate him so fucking much.

i mean in all honesty if youre just wanting to cook meals at home, chef john really has all you need. just search his site for the different category or meat you want to make, print them out, put them in a binder. you could get a good few dozen recipes that are relatively easy to make at home and make you look like a decent home cook. although recently i did find brian lagerstrom and the fact that he regularly uses the different flavors of better than boullion in recipes instead of doing what every other youtube chef does with breaking out their homemade chicken or beef stock that takes them hours to cook and they freeze is very enticing for home cooks.
Anonymous No.21430317 [Report]
I prefer videos because you can tell straight away if you're getting a chef recipe or a cook recipe. There's a difference. I also talk recipes with friends, family or colleagues sometimes.

I've been cooking mostly Brian Lagerstrom's recipes the past year and im happy with it. The only tool you really need to buy to do most of his stuff is an immersion blender.

I'll watch a few different youtubers and if they do a recipe that sounds good I'll do my own version of it. If it's a classic difficult recipe then I'll probably follow it pretty closely the first time but I almost never make the same thing the same way twice because that's a waste of a good opportunity to experiment.
Occasionally I'll just google a recipe if I'm in the mood to try making something new and I want a decent starting point.
