Something about the concept of a seafood boil is deeply offensive to me. I like all the individual components by themselves but chopping up and boiling a varied assortment of vaguely related miscellaneous foods all together and serving it out of a literal trough feels weirdly passive aggressive and degrading. Like an edible middle finger. "Here's your slop, piggy. Eat up."

I mean don't get me wrong I'm still gonna eat it, I'm not above it, I'm just gonna be a little upset about it while I do. Very hateful dish. Very, very disrespectful. Very undignified. Brings the mood down instantly. I can't think of a more offensive culinary gesture than a seafood boil.

what i don't get is why do they have to serve it in a plastic bags?

I don't get the whole dumping it from the table part. It's fine if you just grab a few pieces at the time from a bowl, tray or something and put it on a plate like a buffet style meal though.

OP, cooking seafood whole that requires cracking is actually rich people activity. Clams, lobsters, this is luxurious eatin' with high dollar pricetags. When it comes to crab boils, it's was originally sausages added which in turn flavored the boiling liquid, and then those are in turn going into the baby new potatoes.
To me, the corn gets overly spicy, and I'd ignore it. But, when you add corn pieces to latin soup, the cob does contribute the flavor of the stock.

I'm considering doing one of these tomorrow to see what all the fuss is about. Using this recipe, because regional straya. And no way I'm putting fucking mushrooms.
It's about 30 bucks for the prawns because I'm too lazy to peel and de vein them myself.

They absolutely do. Each order is by the 1lb and full customizable see picrel.
They absolutely just throw anything you add or change from the basic premade orders, into your bag, zip tie it, and boil it. It is then brought out to your table STILL IN THE BAG, carried in a shucking bucket, similar to the ice buckets with 5-6 beers some bars offer. The server rips out of section of a giant roll of wax paper (like how black people use newspaper) and you get a plastic bib the thickness of a grocery bag
