Now that mcwagebots got no tax on [t]ips they're are going to be demanding and at more locations.
> Oh I handed you your food that I touched for 14 seconds? 40% [t]ip. It's added by default.
>Oh I bagged your groceries? 70% mandatory [t]ips

I'm never eating out again. I don't care if I'm starving. Everything will be made at home from groceries I got at the self checkout.
Total fast food and restaurant death

I don't understand how any of what she's bitching about actually affects her in any way. Her job is to carry plates back and forth from the kitchen to the dining area. The only reason monkeys don't do the job is because of sanitary considerations and given the hygiene quality of zoomers and alphies coming into the workface the monkeys are starting to look competitive. You got seventy bucks for doing basically nothing ho shut the fuck up.

I don't understand why it's a percentage to begin with. If that $700 bill was because there were 40 people eating reasonably-priced meals that all required handling and attention, it would warrant a much larger tip than if it were 4 people eating stupidly overpriced meals because of the work required. How the customers "chilling for hours" required more effort on the part of the waitress is beyond me. I guess the only real way to make it work would be if restaurants paid appropriate wages, and built the cost into their prices, and if people had the balls to complain about poor service if it was anything less than great. And then, any thots claiming the practice was unfair could fuck off and find a better job with their lack of useful skills.

How often does the asshole attitude of "excuse me but the recommended tip is actually much higher than what you just gave, have you considered increasing it more to my liking?" work? Do people just cave rather than simply up and leave like in OP?

I wonder how many would skip the tip entirely if you were asked before hand if you wanted actual service for the tip fee or if you were fine with getting up and picking up your food from where the kitchen puts the finished plates? Then order whatever extras from the bar and pay at the cashier, for no extra charge.

Because there is a point where you're better off cycling through a larger number of smaller tickets than a single large ticket within a given time frame. Assuming that the $700 party required 4 tables and that the average normal bill per table is $50, the restaurant breaks even at the 3.5 hour mark. If we assume the tip is 15% on those average bills, from the server's perspective she lost out on $40 dollars compared to dealing with normal customers.

It's made up. The manager isn't saying a damn thing to a customer over a 10% tip, they don't need the grief and there's no upside.

the burger flipper gets paid hourly, we make 2.35 an hour that all goes to taxes anyway. oh yeah and we also tip out the restaurant a percentage of the money we earned, and a lot of places its based off food sales and not actual tips earned. meaning 95% when basketball americans come in, we not only serve them for free but actually pay for the priviledge. you go tell the greasy drugged up line cook he has to go deal with that now and see what happens.

Actually, I bet it does work on blue pill simp men. This is standard femoid shaming tactics, and the end goal is to get these paypig men to cough up more and more money (it's always paypig men). It works exactly like the gatcha and F2P games - there are dumb ass whales out there that make those "free" services a fuckton of money.

And even if it doesn't work, it's all these caved in skull people know how to do. They will repeat this shit all the way to the unemployment line. But just like how loot boxes and other stupid shit actually stuck, us smart people don't make a difference, its the dumbasses that drive this behavior.

Why are people still confused about the source of the problem? Waiters aren’t greedy for expecting tips, they’re paid a wage by the restaurants that make them depend upon tips. You know this, I know this, everyone’s known this for 150 years. It’s a system to help incentivize good service, which was fine classically, but it’s been warped by businesses trying to get out of paying their employees. Now I get handed a tablet defaulting to 15% when I order a drivethru smoothie. I tip delivery, I tip wait service, because I like these systems and want those handling my food to care. I will not extend this courtesy to drivethrus and takeout, as this is not service, and while I’d rather not punish the employees, this is the only way to vote with your dollar.

>we make 2.35 an hour
here in portland orygun you make around $20/hr before tips, because waitstaff have to be paid the state minimum with no tip credits like elsewhere. and now a lot of places are automatically adding 20%+ service charges while keeping a tip line on the credit slip, and sometimes not very subtly pressing patrons to add more. lookin at you, nostrana. sounds like a great fucking deal for the waitstaff, right? wrong, because the service charges + extra tips are pooled and go to everyone so afaik a lot of times servers are making less than they would at similar restaurants in similar cost of living areas

Honest replies only. Do any of you guys ACTUALLY add a tip on restaurant food? I feel like people who grew up on the internet or at least around my age 30-40 know how to torrent, knew how to take advantage of exploits way back in the day like when certain times you could get a large papa John's pizza for 1.29. You know, they follow deal sites, get Groupons, buy discount gift cards during the holidays and pair them with coupon or specials during the next year etc.

I just can't believe that... well... maybe zoomers/alpha they would quite literally write down a number of additional dollars that you don't need to. All that is eating into your credit card cash back and it's just... Why?

OK, I get it a little more now when they bring over those little devices and hover over you while you are typing things in, but that's only recently. It takes just a tiny ounce of fortitude and logic to not voluntarily pay more for something.

Unless it says it's included in the bill (mostly in Europe) I'll leave a small token IF the service felt good. This basically means excess coins or such up to 5$/€. Also only if I don't get "encouraged" to do it with notices on the menu, signs hanging around or waiters looking disappointed if I catch someone else paying without a sizeable tip before me close by.

You should always strive to have good service and APPRECIATE if someone tips a single fucking coin instead of having an atmosphere of wasted energy if you don't get a 30% extra tip. The drunk fat cats will still come and shower the cute waitress regardless.

All your arguments boil down to entitled college dropouts that are being financially fucked by their employers because of lobbyists creating laws that benefit them and the public defend the profits of the employers with foam frothing out their mouths.

You see, in [the rest of the world] tipping is not an expected thing. It works and has always worked that way.

American tipping culture is fucking crazy dude.
Here in Europe, a tip is like, €5, maybe 10 if you were really happy with the service.
So the bill comes and it's €81.46 so you tell the waiter like "make it 85/88/90" and he says "thank you sir" and that's how we do it.
OR you might give him a hundred euro bill and you say "I'd like €10 back", that works also.

Burgers are so cucked by the jew mind virus that instead of pushing for laws and regulations that result in better wages for service workers, they truly believe that the consumer is responsible for doing that via an exorbitant amount of tips in addition to the taxes they already pay over the stated menu price.

Although, in Europe you do pay a compulsory tip via whatever variant of ‘service charge’ they put in the menu. It’s not a legally mandated tax that’s being passed on to the customer, it’s just the restaurant deciding to add on an arbitrary extra amount to your bill which will ostensibly go to the staff as tips.

20% is a maximal tip for the very best service. Only for the most excellent servers.
15% is a full tip for great service.
10% is a minimal tip for minimum service.
If it was less than acceptable service, leave 0% tip.

Tip delivery men, bartenders, and people who carry stuff for you.
Don't tip if you pay before you get to enjoy your meal. (Unless they're open after midnight to give me food on third shift. I will tip a little even if you stay behind a counter, and it's not drive-through.)

I repeat, DO NOT TIP IF YOU PAY BEFOREHAND.

Also tip cute, thin coffee baristas without hair dye and no visible tattoos. Make sure you are seen tipping them directly and personally, however never tip others. This will sow the seeds of fun.

Yes.
Do you have an actual point, or do you just want to keep blithering about your imaginary world where employers say "oh, you need more money? here you go" and where customers are perfectly rational actors that prioritize abstract incentive alignment?
Servers demand tips from customers because it's literally their only option. Yeah it shouldn't be the customer's responsibility, but the servers can't do anything about how the system works and they have to work with what they have

abstract?
you can't get more concrete than "not spending extra money by tipping $0", it's a win-win, customer spends less, and becomes part of the solution

>Do you have an actual point
yeah, my point is that I'm not going to tip unless the service is extraordinary because I'm not going to contribute to the problem, and so should everyone else

moreover, I also re-iterate the point other anons made about how retarded it is that the tip is related to the total amount
just because I ordered more expensive food doesn't mean your job got any harder and you suddenly deserve higher tip

then again, I live in a country where waiters actually get paid a reasonable amount and tipping is not expected

The moment tipping becomes mandatory the point of the whole thing falls apart.
If the restaurant and its employees require more money to provide food to people then they need to raise the prices that the customer can see on their website so they can go "I have 50€ to spend on food today, I shall buy 49.99€ pizza on pizza place italy like"

Nta but fuck, youre right. I was a server and bartender for the better part of ten years and when I was working at shitty chains, all I wanted was $5/table, 40 tables, in a 4 -6 hour shift. That was a night I could be happy with. For the fine dining though it did require extra work, being a high standard. You didn't have to know shit about the wine at the BWW. But at high end places I went out of my way to earn that $20+ tip per table, whether that be expert knowledge of a menu applebees consumers can't pronounce let alone afford, or charming, or silent - whatever the situation required. Only thing I wouldn't do was be rude to people or complain when I was being paid by the actual merit of my behavior and service. But I still can't really argue with what you said. Not in any meaningfully direct way

12+ of them show up 10 minutes before close (10:50) and its my job to wait on all of them

rack up a 600 dollar bill

tip absolutely nothing

pay the restaurant about $30 in tip out for the priviledge of doing all that (as its based on food sales and not your actual tips)

clean up all their mess afterwards at at 12:30 AM

this type of scenario happened to me multiple times at my shitty chain restaurant btw. the joggers came there specifically because we couldnt add an automatic tip to the table which you can do at most any decent place for large parties. I wasnt prejudiced before I started waiting tables.

That’s not bad service that’s something that fucks over your own restaurant and leaves them with dead stock depending on the ingredients

Not really a problem unless it’s a multi course meal. And even then you’re just, again, prolonging their stay. Retard.

>Tipping proliferated in the United States after the Civil War, when the restaurant and hospitality industries hired newly emancipated Black women and men but offered them no wage–leaving them to rely on patrons’ gratuities for their pay instead. Simply put, tipping was introduced as a way to exploit the labor of former slaves.

>“It’s the legacy of slavery that turned the tip in the United States from a bonus or extra on top of a wage, to a wage itself,” explains Saru Jayaraman, co-founder of Restaurant Opportunities Centers United (ROC United).

virtually every restaurant requires you to pay them back some of the tips you make, which are supposed to go to other front of house workers like bussers, hosts, food runners and bartenders. basically restaurants are super jewish, so not only do they not want to pay the wages for servers, they want servers themselves to help subsidize other positions. this is industry standard. for some places this will be a percentage of the tips you receive, but more commonly its based off things like food sales or for the bartender, alcohol sales. and when you dont get any tip from a table, you still have to pay the calculated tip out based on the sales. meaning you actually pay the restaurant for waiting on a no tip table.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand why you're expected to tip a certain amount because of the amount of your bill. I tip based on the service I receive, like if my server brings out our food and checks in on us from time to time, they'll get a decent tip from me. But if they only just bring out the food, throw it on the table, and don't come back after, why would I give more money as a tip? Just because my bill was like $100-200? I find that ridiculous

I feel extremely guilty for forcing somebody to make slop for me. The tip makes me feel a little bit less like I personally harmed them. I do not go to restaurants often, I cook for myself. I don't like it when people (gfs, etc) want to cook for me either. It just makes me mad. This is probably autism or something but if you don't make your own food you are a disgusting retarded little baby who basically needs somebody to wipe their ass for them. So, when in the rare but dire circumstances where I must have someone cook for me, I have to tip by way of apology. Of course, it just goes to the greedy and worthless waiters and not the cooks in the back who deserve but, but I can pretend.

>every parrots this but in practice it never actually happens. the restaurant can just claim "you didnt make enough for these hours but made more than minimum for this other shift so I dont have to pay you".
Yeah, so on average they're still getting paid over minimum wage. That checks out.
If they don't like that volatility they should either:
a) save their money they make over minimum wage, to prepare for the volatility of their job.
b) get a better job where that volatility is not a factor.
Working at a restaurant is a stupid job to have, and I think people should eat there less so there are less of these stupid jobs and all the adults who should have gotten a job doing something uesful are outbid by the high schoolers for which this work is appropriate.

It’s even crazier that tipping in bars in the US is expected. With every drink. And if you don’t tip, they serve you last, and act like dicks. The drinks at most American bars aren’t even any cheaper than most of Europe.
