Good riddance. Canned veggies are only good for camping and doomsday prepping these days.

none of that del monte stuff has preservatives. I think the real issue is that people associate canned veggies with poor people

I prefer them to frozen in some cases.
Green beans for green bean casserole is one such case. The frozen ones just don't taste right for it, probably because I grew up with canned ones.

This stuff made sense before modern cold supply chains and reliable electricity, but now that basic infrastructure, health and safety practices are being banned for wokeness we may see a resurgence in demand for things we previously associated with third world countries. Canned food, camp stoves, mosquito netting, boiling the shit out of any vegetables you acquire, all meat cooked well done, etc.

It would surprise me if the next generation after Gen Alpha will be able to brush their teeth with tap water. If there even is tap water. Maybe toothbrushes will be considered a kind of sexual perversion.

the pressure cooking and canning process makes the food sterile and the salt content is typically high which in itself is a preservative. what health nuts are concerned about is the lining (BPA) and other substances in the can itself leeching into the food.

Most Del Monte products contain sugar and/or "natural flavor". Natural flavor means it contains a secret mix of practically anything extracted from a plant, animal, fungus, or insect. They are not pure vegetable products.

Stoe Brand shit is not the same. I've been evaluating this when shopping for things like cream cawn and black beans and stuff, and the first ingredient on the store brand is fucking starch, then sugar, then corn and then a bunch of chemicals that make it yellow and crisp. Del Monte has corn first, then starch and citric acid.

The shit is not the same. Poor DM :<

Man as far a cand veggies go that's the one thing I still fucking dream about from my childhood. It's so good. I've made it from scratch which is a delicious and nutritious meal but it's just not the same. The way the rind gets squeaky on your teeth is just a little added magic, but the texture and flavour are amazing.

I should see if mumsy will send me a can or two for Chrimmas, I haven't had that shit in over a decade

Nooooo.

Delmonte is the best quality common canned veggies.

They have peas and corn that are as good as quality frozen ines.

Store brands are awful. Peas with hard outsides, bitter flavors. Nothing alike.

I have eaten my fair share of del monte and still do. The problem I had is that they rose in price so fucking much. Used to get them for a dollar a can pre-covid and they were a quick addition to a meal. Then they went up to 2.50 and back down to 2. It's hard to justify spending 2.50 on that shit when you could spend a little more and get fresh vegetables.

Exactly. I wouldn't be surprised if Campbell's Soup is next on the chopping block of canned foods. Canned food is supposed to be cheap. We don't expect it to be healthy or even tasty, it's just supposed to be cheap. An 8oz can of green beans or creamed corn should cost like 50 cents, maybe 1 dollar at the most. But as this Anon said, they pushed prices up to $2 and in some markets even higher. At that price...why would I buy canned veggies instead of just paying like another 25 cents and getting the equivalent amount in fresh veggies? It used to be if you wanted to save you bought some canned veggies for 50c or a dollar, and if you wanted to splurge you'd spend like 2.50 or 3 bucks for the equivalent in fresh veggies. Now the fresh veggies are basically still the same price, sometimes even cheaper due to globalized markets, while canned foods keep rising in cost. It makes no sense
